Father and son, Gareth and Blake McKeegan (Jared Wilson)
Newbuildings cruised to a comprehensive seven-wicket victory over St Johnston in their North West T20 clash, romping home with more than nine overs to spare. St Johnston never recovered from a sluggish middle order collapse after opener Mark Pollock produced a fluent 42 from 34 balls, striking four fours and three sixes. David Lapsley’s 28 was the only other meaningful contribution as the innings closed on 113 for 9. The Newbuildings attack shared the wickets around impressively. Skipper Ross Hunter led the way with 3 for 23, while Jamaican professional Peat Salmon and Jared Wilson both picked up two wickets apiece. The chase was virtually settled inside the powerplay as Mark Hanna blasted 51 from only 26 balls, hammering nine fours and two sixes. He shared an opening stand of 75 with Jason Dunn, whose brisk 20 included two maximums. Pollock claimed three late wickets, but Wilson quickly finished matters in style, launching three sixes in an unbeaten 27.

Bready 140-6 (17.5 overs; Josh van Heerden 52, Charlie Downey 40)
Bready inflicted more pain on Donemana with a four-wicket victory in their Tyrone derby clash. Donemana posted 139 for 6 from their 20 overs, but never fully managed to break free against a disciplined Bready attack. Awais Zafar gave the innings early momentum with 27 before Ray Curry top-scored with 42 from 39 balls, striking five boundaries. Curry and Levi Dougherty, who made 28, shared a stand of 66 to steady the innings, although regular wickets prevented the home side from building a truly imposing total. Charlie Downey was the standout bowler, showing excellent form since switching from Newbuildings with impressive figures of 3 for 21. Bready’s chase wobbled at 56 for 4, leaving the game finely poised, but Josh van Heerden swung the momentum decisively with a blistering 52 from just 29 balls that included four fours and three sixes. Downey then completed an outstanding all-round display, making 40 from 33 deliveries with two fours and two sixes to move Bready to the brink of victory before Adam Warnock and Nathan McCombe calmly finished the job with more than two overs remaining.

Coleraine 165-5 (18.5 overs; Louren Steenkamp 51, David Cooke 35*, Matthew Hutchinson 22*, Varun Chopra 22; Swarnim Jha 2-29)
Coleraine chased superbly to claim a five-wicket victory over Fox Lodge in an entertaining clash. Fox Lodge posted a competitive 164 for 8 thanks largely to an excellent opening stand of 69 between Ali Doherty and Dean McCarter. Doherty raced to a boundary-filled 39 from just 27 balls, striking seven fours and a six, while McCarter anchored the innings superbly with an unbeaten 66 from 47 deliveries that included four fours and three maximums. Coleraine’s bowlers fought back well after the aggressive start, with Matty Smyth impressing again as he claimed 3 for 19 using his variations cleverly. New signing Jacob Logan-Wilson also continued his encouraging start since arriving from The Nedd, taking 2 for 23. The visitors kept pace with the asking rate throughout their reply. Louren Steenkamp blasted 51 from 33 balls and shared an opening stand of 56 with Patrick Carson before both fell to Swarnim Jha. Varun Chopra added 22, but the game still hung in the balance with 38 required from 23 balls. David Cooke then struck an unbeaten 35 from 20 balls, while Matthew Hutchinson’s explosive 22 from 11 deliveries guided Coleraine home with seven balls remaining - the pair clearing the ropes five times in the closing stages.

Beechgrove, 18 May.
Strabane 118-7 (20 overs; Ryan Gallagher 33, Mark McNulty 20*; Jamie Millar 3-22, David Barr 2-22)
Brigade 41-0 (5 overs; Gavin Roulston 21*, Scott Macbeth 20*)

Ryan Gallagher top-scored with a run-a-ball 33 that included five boundaries, while Mark McNulty provided late resistance with an unbeaten 20. Killyclooney, 18 May.
Killyclooney 68-5 (10 overs; Keenan Viera 24, Alan Nicholl 20; JJ O'Brien 3-11, Lewis Pearson 2-28)
Glendermott
There was no repeat of the previous day’s drama as rain brought the North West Championship T20 clash between Killyclooney and Glendermott to a premature end after just 10 overs at Killyclooney. Meeting again less than 24 hours after Killyclooney’s Championship victory, the home side made a lively start and reached 68 for 5 before the weather closed in. Opener Alan Nicholl and overseas professional Keenan Viera looked in excellent touch as they guided Killyclooney to 63 for 2, taking advantage of the shortened format with positive strokeplay. Nicholl struck 20 at the top of the order, while Viera led the way with an entertaining 24 from 22 balls that included two fours and two sixes. However, Glendermott hit back strongly in the latter stages of the innings. JJ O’Brien sparked a mini-collapse with impressive figures of 3 for 11, while Lewis Pearson claimed 2 for 28 as wickets tumbled in a late flurry before the rain arrived to end proceedings early, with neither side getting any points from the wash-out.

Eglinton 154-2 (13.3 overs; A Millar 75, Dunith Jayathunga 67*; Raghuveer Velagapudi 2-33)
Less than 24 hours after their previous encounter, Eglinton again proved too strong for Letterkenny with a blistering eight-wicket win. Varun Tiwari steadied the innings with a run-a-ball 34 before sharing a third-wicket stand of 73 with Muhammad Khalid, who top-scored with an unbeaten 53 from 33 balls, including six fours and a six. Ateeq ur Rehman then provided late fireworks, smashing three sixes in an unbeaten 23 from only 11 deliveries. The hosts were dismissed for just 137 in 42 overs, but the total proved more than enough on a difficult surface. Young Zimbabwean leg-spinner Luke Marrillier was the chief destroyer for Donemana, ripping through the innings with outstanding figures of 5-29. Despite regular wickets, Strabane dug in through Allen Patterson, whose resilient unbeaten 31 anchored the innings, while overseas professional Muhammad Mohsin contributed 24 valuable runs in the middle order. Awais Zafar chipped in with 2-22 to keep the pressure on the home side. Donemana would have expected to chase the modest target comfortably, but Strabane’s bowlers produced a sensational display full of discipline and intensity. The visitors never settled as wickets tumbled steadily throughout the reply. Vadivel Moorthy was the star with the ball, claiming a magnificent 5-32, while Mohsin completed a superb all-round performance by taking 4-14 to rip the heart out of the Donemana batting line-up. Swarnim Jha and Levi Kerr (Fox Lodge CC)
Fox Lodge made it two wins from two with a comfortable seven-wicket victory over Coleraine at Ballymagorry after Levi Kerr’s five-wicket haul set up the chase. Coleraine’s innings never recovered from the nightmare start of losing professional Louren Steenkamp first ball to teenager Swarnim Jha. The South African had struck an unbeaten century on Saturday, but cricket proved a great leveller as he departed for a golden duck. Experienced campaigner David Cooke battled hard for 35, while Patrick Carson added 23 and Jacob Logan-Wilson chipped in with 22, but Fox Lodge kept taking wickets at regular intervals. Kerr was the standout performer with superb figures of 5-41, while Aaron Heywood claimed 2-10 and Swarnim Jha picked up 2-30 as Coleraine were dismissed for 121 in 30.5 overs. Letterkenny 149-7 (28 overs; R Machingal 28, R Velagapudi 25*, J Johny 24*, V Tiwari 24; Jack Martin 4-16, I Young 2-26) (Target 237 in 28 overs)

The home side were in control from the outset thanks to a blistering opening partnership between skipper Andy Lucas and Andy Millar. The pair added 106 in just 80 balls to take the game away from the visitors. Lucas led from the front with a fluent 62 from 49 deliveries, striking nine fours and a six, while Millar produced another superb knock, top-scoring with 81 from 69 balls that included 11 fours and a maximum. Even after the breakthrough, Eglinton maintained the momentum as Robbie Millar added an unbeaten 35 before heavy rain eventually halted proceedings with the hosts on 192-3 after 28 overs. Credit goes to Letterkenny for braving difficult conditions that at one stage appeared likely to end the match altogether. Revised calculations left them chasing a daunting DLS target of 234 from their 28 overs. While that was always beyond reach, the visitors showed good determination to bat out their overs and close on 145-7. Jack Martin taking four wickets with Eglinton comfortably sealing another valuable victory that puts them in prime position for an immediate return to the top flight.

Brigade 153-6 (33.3 overs; Gavin Roulston 51, Scott Macbeth 45, Ifty Hussain 34*; Matthew Campbell 2-27) (Target 152 in 36 overs)
Defending champions Brigade overcame tricky batting conditions and a brief mid-innings wobble to secure a four-wicket win over Bready in a rain-reduced 36-over contest. Runs proved hard to come by throughout the day, with only ten fours and one six struck in the entire Bready innings. South African professional Josh van Heerden anchored the effort with a patient 51 from 77 balls, while Kyle Magee contributed 25 in support as Bready closed on 145-5. Ryan Macbeth was the standout bowler, finishing with impressive figures of 2-17 to keep the scoring under control. Macbeth was the aggressor, blasting 45 from only 43 deliveries with three fours and three sixes. Although Bready threatened a comeback with a couple of quick wickets, Ifty Hussain’s unbeaten 34 alongside Andy Britton guided Brigade safely home with 15 balls to spare to help ease the pain of their forfeiture last Sunday.

Rhys Logue and Aaron Gillespie added 51 for the second wicket, scoring 38 and 31 respectively, before overseas player Mohammed Mohsin injected late momentum with a quickfire 43 from just 33 deliveries, clearing the ropes four times. Reduced to 29 overs a side, the Saints made an impressive start through Jack Macbeth and Mark Pollock, who shared an opening stand of 77 in 12 overs. Macbeth led the way with an accomplished 57 from 61 balls, striking seven fours and two sixes, while Pollock added 32. The innings accelerated late on thanks to Irish international Conor Olphert, better known for his seam bowling, who blasted 36 from just 21 deliveries with three fours and three sixes. Alongside David Lapsley’s 32, he added 58 in six overs as the Donegal side posted 185-6. Awais Zafar and Donemana skipper Gary McClintock both claimed two wickets. Foyleview Arena, 16 May.
Fox Lodge 198-5 (32 overs; Gayan Maneeshan 87, Jason Milligan 53, Charlie Simpson 33; Ross Hunter 2-40)

Gayan Maneeshan and Levi Kerr (Aaron Heywood)
Fox Lodge continued their strong form with a 29-run DLS victory over Newbuildings in a rain-affected 32-over contest. The Foxies built their innings around a superb third-wicket partnership of 119 in just 16 overs between Sri Lankan professional Gayan Maneeshan and Jason Milligan. Maneeshan’s prolific early-season form showed no sign of slowing as he hammered 87 from 70 balls, striking 12 fours and three sixes. Milligan provided excellent support with a powerful 53 that included four boundaries and three maximums, while Charlie Simpson laid the early foundations with 33 featuring five fours. Skipper Ross Hunter picked up two wickets for the hosts. Set a revised target of 214, Newbuildings collapsed to 92-7 despite an explosive 28-ball 49 from Peat Salmon before he was removed by Johnny “Bap” Robinson. Brigade 160-4 (38.4 overs; D Barr 80*)
Beechgrove (CricketEurope)
THERE was a controversial conclusion to the NW Premiership clash at Beechgrove between defending champions Brigade and expected challengers Newbuildings. Chasing 233, the contest was evenly poised with David Barr’s unbeaten 80 having the hosts 160 for 4 in the 39th over when a shower stopped play. Brigade failed to produce a DLS sheet which calculates revised targets in the event of stoppages, with the umpires automatically awarding the match to Newbuildings. It’s a bitter pill to swallow for Brigade, but Newbuildings will care little as they get their season up and running. Earlier, a century stand between Jason Dunn (66) and Ryan Hunter (61) laid an excellent platform before Jamie Millar’s five-wicket haul saw them falter to 232 for eight.

Strabane 222-3 (39.4 overs; A Gillespie 120*, R Logue 70; D Rankin 2-18)
Aaron Gillespie and Rhys Logue (CricketEurope)
Aaron Gillespie's brilliant hundred steered Strabane to an emphatic seven wickets win at Bready in the only game to go ahead in the Premiership. He hit 9 fours and eight sixes in his unbeaten 120, sharing a match winning second wicket partnership of 183 in 28 overs with Rhys Logue who proved the perfect foil. Logue's fine 70 included seven fours and one maximum. David Rankin took two wickets to get Bready a bonus point but it was scant consolation on a dominant Strabane display. Earlier, wickets for Mohammed Mohsin (3-50), Manav Aggarwal (2-25) and Vadivel Moorthy (2-35) reduced the hosts to 122 for 7, but David Scanlon, not for the first time, rallied the tail as he thumped five sixes in an unbeaten 44-ball 59, putting on 106 in the last 14 overs with Charlie Downey (27) and Nathan McCombe (19*). A final total of 228 for 8 looked competitive - but it wasn't.
