Bangor v Armagh - abandoned.
Upritchard Park, 17 May.
Armagh 196-9 (40 overs; M Steenson 81, L Liebenberg 49, B Mackey 23; A Farrell 4-28, C Pyper 2-30)
Bangor 1-1 (0.4 overs) (Rain interrupted - Bangor target 180 off 33 overs)
Armagh’s hopes of a first NCU Section One win of the season were washed away by heavy rain after their clash with Bangor was abandoned with the hosts just four balls into the chase. Asked to bat first, Armagh recovered impressively from a shaky 35 for 4 to post a competitive 196 for 9 from their 40 overs. Matthew Steenson anchored the rescue effort superbly, striking 81 from 94 balls with nine fours and two sixes in a composed innings under pressure. He shared a crucial fifth-wicket stand of 81 with overseas professional Luan Liebenberg, who counter-attacked with 49 from 52 deliveries, including seven boundaries. Steenson then added another valuable partnership with Ben Mackey, whose 23 helped push the total towards 200. Bangor’s new-ball pair Angus Farrell and Chris Pyper were the pick of the bowlers, Farrell claiming 4 for 28 while Pyper returned 2 for 30. Liebenberg struck immediately in reply, dismissing Seb Yeates in the opening over, but persistent rain soon ended play in frustrating fashion for both sides.

Madison Landsman and Lara Maritz (CricketEurope)
Holywood produced a statement performance as they swept aside defending champions Waringstown Women by 62 runs after a dominant all-round display inspired by skipper Madison Landsman. She shared a commanding 113-run stand with Christina Soulsby, who contributed a composed 37, before adding a further 61 in the final four overs alongside Erin Bond, who finished unbeaten on 13. The only breakthrough for Waringstown came when Lucia Derby claimed the sole wicket of the innings. Facing a daunting chase, Waringstown were always struggling to keep pace with the required rate and eventually closed on 112-9. Captain Naomi Matthews top-scored with 25, while Penny Speer made 23 and Sophie Hinds added 20. Landsman capped a memorable outing by taking 3-18, with Bond claiming 2-17 as Holywood cruised to an impressive victory that outlines their title credentials.

Muckamore 141-6 (20 overs; Beth McCrea 31, Rebekah Mairs 23*; Sanvi Vinothkumar 3-40)
Instonians 130-4 (20 overs; Anna Ellerby 47*, Matilda McCartney 36)
Muckamore edged a tense contest at Moylena by 11 runs as Instonians were left to rue a costly number of extras in a closely-fought encounter. Batting first, Muckamore posted 141-6 from their 20 overs, with Beth McCrea leading the way with 31, striking four boundaries in a lively innings at the top of the order. Rebekah Mairs then provided an important late flourish, finishing unbeaten on 23 from just 16 balls, including three fours. However, the defining contribution to the innings came from Instonians’ indiscipline with the ball. Muckamore were gifted 46 extras, including a remarkable 36 wides, and those additional runs ultimately proved decisive. Sanvi Vinothkumar was the pick of the bowlers claiming 3-40. Instonians battled hard in reply and looked in contention for much of the chase thanks to an excellent third-wicket partnership of 66 between Anna Ellerby and Matilda McCartney. Ellerby anchored the innings with an unbeaten 47 from 45 balls, while McCartney made an aggressive 36 from 25 deliveries, hitting five boundaries. Despite their efforts, Instonians closed on 130-4, just short of their target.

CSNI lost to Lisburn by 27 runs
Stormont, 17 May.
Lisburn 131-7 (20 overs; Talia Hurley 80; Vanessa Minford 2-14, Katie West 2-36)
CSNI 104-8 (20 overs; Jemma Gillan 29; Talia Hurley 2-13, Amelia Hughes 2-17, Lucy Andrews 2-19)
Talia Hurley was the match winner for Lisburn (Lisburn CC)
An outstanding all-round display from overseas player Talia Hurley guided Lisburn to a convincing 27-run victory over CSNI in the Women's Premiership. Hurley dominated the Lisburn innings with a superb 80 from 60 balls, striking 14 boundaries in a commanding knock that formed the backbone of her side’s total of 131-7 from 20 overs. While wickets fell regularly around her, the New Zealander kept the scoreboard moving throughout with a mixture of timing and aggression. CSNI fought back well with the ball, led by Vanessa Minford and Katie West, who both claimed two wickets. Minford’s accurate spell earned figures of 2-14, while West picked up 2-36. In reply, CSNI never quite managed to build the momentum required in the chase. Captain Jemma Gillan top-scored with a steady 29, but regular wickets left the home side struggling to keep pace with the asking rate. Hurley then capped a memorable performance by taking 2-13 to help derail the chase, while Lucy Andrews and Amelia Hughes also collected two wickets apiece as CSNI closed on 104-8.
NCU Premier League

But Dyer 44, with four sixes, and Leckey 36 from 30 balls would not be parted after Ruhan Pretorius had taken three early wickets. However the Woodvale captain and professional Ludwig Kaestner could score only 36 between them in their side’s total of 211 for eight from 46 overs. Francis Collins top scored with 55 and and James West took three wickets in an accurate 10-over spell.

Bangor continued their impressive start to the NCU Section One campaign with a crushing seven-wicket victory over Cooke Collegians at Upritchard Park. Fresh from steering Saintfield to National Cup glory last week, Werner Brand produced another sparkling century before rain denied Derriaghy any chance of a chase at Queensway. With the game reduced first to 40 overs and then again to 29 following persistent interruptions, Saintfield made full use of the shortened format to post an imposing 171 for 4. Brand dominated the innings with a blistering 100 from just 73 deliveries, peppering the boundary with nine fours and six towering sixes in a commanding display of power hitting. The South African shared a crucial second-wicket partnership of 78 with skipper Andrew McGavera, who contributed a well-paced 32 to keep the scoreboard moving. Ben Kenny was the pick of the Derriaghy attack, returning tidy figures of 2 for 12 and eventually removing the dangerous Brand.

Fresh from his Irish Senior Cup heroics, Mike Erlank produced another superb innings, finishing unbeaten on 96 from a dazzling display that included 11 fours and five sixes. Openers Kian Hilton and Harry Zimmermann laid solid foundations with scores of 25 and 22 before Erlank accelerated alongside skipper Tyron Koen, whose unbeaten 28 came in a blistering unbroken stand of 85 from just 38 balls as North Down closed on 185 for 3 - 44 runs coming from the last two overs and this was to be the defining phase of the contest. CI responded bravely despite losing Jake Egan to the first ball of the innings. Charlie Swart counterattacked with a lively 55 featuring four sixes, while skipper John Matchett contributed 41 in a second wicket partnership of 61. However, the chase never quite gathered enough momentum as CI finished on 177 for 7, with 20s from Carson McCullough and Paddy Beverland..

Stormont, 7 May.
Instonians 213-6 (20 overs; S Gould 92, C Carmichael 39, S Dadswell 28, A White 21*; J Collingwood 3-33)
CSNI 203-6 (20 overs; A Hebbar 100, J West 31, S Thompson 22; C Robertson 2-30, M Humphreys 2-31)
Sully Gould's prolific start to the season continued as he plundered 7 fours and 8 sixes in a rapid 37-ball 92, adding 118 for the second wicket with Cade Carmichael (33). There were runs too for Shane Dadswell (28), Andy White (21*), and Cian Robertson (18) in an impressive total of 213 for 6 - three wickets for Jake Collingwood. CSNI though weren't fazed by such a total as James West's 16-ball 31 got the chase up and running. Ashwin Hebbar then took up the mantle, keeping pace with the required rate as he hit a 51-ball hundred that included no fewer than 11 sixes. However, he and Jordan Neill fell in quick succession and despite valiant efforts from skipper Stuart Thompson (22) and Harry Dyer (14*) they fell 10 runs adrift on 203 for 6 - two wickets each for Matthew Humphreys and Cian Robertson.
Group B: Waringstown beat Laurelvale by 92 runs (DLS).
The Lawn, 7 May.
Waringstown 209-5 (20 overs; S Stolk 55, J McCollum 45, M Topping 38, G Thompson 21*; H Subhani 3-43)
Laurelvale 65-6 (15 overs; R Allen 2-6, J Cameron-Dow 2-11)
Waringstown won Mid-Ulster bragging rights with a comfortable 92-run DLS win over Laurelvale. The result was never in doubt after Steve Stolk raced out of the traps with a 21-ball 55 (4 fours, 5 sixes) as he and Matthew Halliday (18) had an opening stand of 68 inside the powerplay. James McCollum hit 8 fours in a quality 45, sharing a half century stand with in-form Morgan Topping (38). There were runs too for skipper Greg Thompson (21*) and Ross Allen (12) in a total of 209 for 5 - three wickets for Hameed Subhani. Laurelvale's chase never got any traction as they limped to 65 for 6 in 15 overs before bad light halted play - two wickets for Ross Allen and James Cameron-Dow.
Group A: Lisburn beat Cliftonville Academy by 121 runs (DLS).
Wallace Park, 7 May.
Lisburn 283-6 (20 overs; R Adair 96, B Calitz 82, N Whitworth 40, M Adair 31; H Wylie 2-54, M McCord 2-70)
Cliftonville Academy 106-6 (16 overs; CP Klijnhans 31, A Wylie 22, D Reid 21; M Adair 2-5)
Ross Adair and Ben Calitz
Lisburn's big guns fired at Wallace Park as they blew away Cliftonville Academy under a barrage of boundaries. Ross Adair set the ball rolling with a 38-ball top score of 96 that included 10 fours and seven of the 20 sixes that Lisburn hit. Adair shared an opening stand of 121 in 10 overs with skipper Neil Whitworth (40), but if CA thought his dismissal would bring some relief they were in for a shock. Mark Adair kept the tempo going with a 12-ball 31 (2 fours, 3 sixes), but the fireworks really started with the arrival to the crease of fellow international Ben Calitz. The left-hander hit 82 from just 21 balls - a strike rate approaching 400! Ten of the 21 balls he faced sailed over the ropes and beyond, and for good measure he struck six fours in 32 minutes of mayhem. A final total of 283 for Lisburn is believed to be an NCU Senior record for the competition, and not surprisingly CA didn't come close to shaking it down. CP Klijnhans did offer some fun with a breezy 31 (3 fours, 3 sixes) but thereafter the pace slowed as they limped to 106 for 6 - two wickets for Mark Adair - as bad light brought a premature end to proceedings. The official margin of victory for Lisburn 121 runs on DLS.
Group B: Woodvale lost to CI by 50 runs.
Ballygomartin Road, 8 May.
CI 196-9 (20 overs; C Swart 56, J Matchett 52, S Surish 29, J Egan 28; R Pretorius 2-34, L Kaestner 2-34)
Woodvale 146-7 (20 overs; L Kaestner 67, F Restieaux 27*; S Suresh 3-21, A Armstrong 2-24)
A century stand between skipper John Matchett and Charlie Swart led CI to a 50-run win over Woodvale at Ballygomartin Road. Batting first, opener Jake Egan hit a quickfire 12-ball 28 (2 fours, 3 sixes) to get the CI innings up and running before the duo's match-defining nine-over partnership. Highly rated teenager Swart top-scored with 56 from 33 balls, while Matchett's 52 took two balls more - both clearing the ropes three times as well as hitting five fours. Satish Suresh (29) gave the innings a late boost with three sixes in an entertaining cameo as they finished on 196 for 9 - two wickets each for Ruhan Pretorius and Ludwig Kaestner. The chase never kept up with the required tempo despite the best efforts of Kaestner who hit seven sixes in a 32-ball 67. Suresh (3-21) and Irish youth international Alex Armstrong (2-24) doing the bulk of the damage were restricted to 146 for 7.
