Glendermott
There was no repeat of the previous day’s drama as rain brought the North West Championship T20 clash between Killyclooney and Glendermott to a premature end after just 10 overs at Killyclooney. Meeting again less than 24 hours after Killyclooney’s Championship victory, the home side made a lively start and reached 68 for 5 before the weather closed in. Opener Alan Nicholl and overseas professional Keenan Viera looked in excellent touch as they guided Killyclooney to 63 for 2, taking advantage of the shortened format with positive strokeplay. Nicholl struck 20 at the top of the order, while Viera led the way with an entertaining 24 from 22 balls that included two fours and two sixes. However, Glendermott hit back strongly in the latter stages of the innings. JJ O’Brien sparked a mini-collapse with impressive figures of 3 for 11, while Lewis Pearson claimed 2 for 28 as wickets tumbled in a late flurry before the rain arrived to end proceedings early, with neither side getting any points from the wash-out.

The visitors never settled as wickets tumbled steadily throughout the reply. Vadivel Moorthy was the star with the ball, claiming a magnificent 5-32, while Mohsin completed a superb all-round performance by taking 4-14 to rip the heart out of the Donemana batting line-up. Fox Lodge made it two wins from two with a comfortable seven-wicket victory over Coleraine at Ballymagorry after Levi Kerr’s five-wicket haul set up the chase. Coleraine’s innings never recovered from the nightmare start of losing professional Louren Steenkamp first ball to teenager Swarnim Jha. The South African had struck an unbeaten century on Saturday, but cricket proved a great leveller as he departed for a golden duck. Experienced campaigner David Cooke battled hard for 35, while Patrick Carson added 23 and Jacob Logan-Wilson chipped in with 22, but Fox Lodge kept taking wickets at regular intervals. The pair added 106 in just 80 balls to take the game away from the visitors. Lucas led from the front with a fluent 62 from 49 deliveries, striking nine fours and a six, while Millar produced another superb knock, top-scoring with 81 from 69 balls that included 11 fours and a maximum. Even after the breakthrough, Eglinton maintained the momentum as Robbie Millar added an unbeaten 35 before heavy rain eventually halted proceedings with the hosts on 192-3 after 28 overs. Credit goes to Letterkenny for braving difficult conditions that at one stage appeared likely to end the match altogether. Revised calculations left them chasing a daunting DLS target of 234 from their 28 overs. While that was always beyond reach, the visitors showed good determination to bat out their overs and close on 145-7. Jack Martin taking four wickets with Eglinton comfortably sealing another valuable victory that puts them in prime position for an immediate return to the top flight.

Mary Bradley presents the Shaun Bradley Memorial Plate, competed annually by Eglinton and Ardmore. (CricketEurope)
Frequent showers may have interrupted proceedings, but there was no stopping Eglinton as they stormed to a nine-wicket DLS victory over Ardmore chasing a revised target of 111 in 22 overs. Ardmore were indebted to Sri Lankan overseas professional Kasun Aberaytne, who carried the batting almost single-handedly with a superb unbeaten 74 from 74 balls, striking 11 fours and a six. Wickets tumbled regularly around him with little resistance from the top order, as a string of single-figure scores left the innings in danger of collapse. Valuable late contributions of 13 apiece from Vivek Dwivedi and Mark Chambers at least pushed the total towards respectability in the rain-hit contest. Eglinton’s bowlers kept a firm grip throughout, with left-armer Kyle Moore claiming four wickets in an impressive spell, while leg-spinner Robbie Millar chipped in with two more. Any hopes of a dramatic defence quickly disappeared as Eglinton’s openers made light work of the chase. The only real threat came from the dark clouds overhead as skipper Andy Lucas blasted an unbeaten 68 from 49 deliveries, including seven fours and three sixes. Alongside Andy Millar’s fluent 28, the pair shared an unbroken opening stand of 104 to seal a comfortable maximum-points win.

Graham Kennedy (Ballyspallen CC)
Ballyspallen claimed a hard-fought 23-run victory over Glendermott after defending a revised DLS target in a rain-affected encounter. The home side posted 191-9 from their 45 overs, built around a vital third-wicket partnership of 63 between Hassan Shahid and Raveen Yasas. Shahid top-scored with 43, while Yasas struck 42 in an innings that also featured useful contributions from Pushpender Singh and Curtis McElwee. Glendermott’s attack was led superbly by Lewis Pearson, who claimed 4-31, while Alex Boyd picked up two wickets. Set a revised target of 171 from 34 overs, Glendermott made an encouraging start through Ben Mills and Craig Averill. Mills hammered 36 from 35 balls with six fours and a six, while Averill added 29 as the visitors looked well placed. However, left-arm spinner Graham Kennedy turned the contest with a miserly spell of 3-13 from seven overs, including the prize scalp of Blayde Cappell, strangling the middle order along with his brother Stephen (7-1-11-1) and slowing the scoring rate dramatically. Jake Montgomery battled for 34 from 67 deliveries, but Ballyspallen closed out victory comfortably in the closing overs.
