Sully Gould with 69 from 33 balls (10 fours, two sixes) started the charge, Shane Dadswell then reached 99 off 78 balls (eight fours and two sixes) but was caught next ball by Luke Allen. When Ben Rose and Jack Robinson followed, Instonians were 265 for seven but Cian Robertson (80) and 15 year-old Cameron Wilson (22 from 25 balls) saw them home. Civil Service North maintained their late charge up the Premier League table with a 85 runs victory over a Muckamore side who played knowing their title hopes were over. Although CSN posted 207, Adam Leckey was top scorer with 36, while Jason van der Merwe and Neil Brand were not introduced until the 25th over. At that stage the home side were 146 for five, and Brand bowled his 10 overs for just 20 and van der Merwe took two for 35 as CSN were bowled out at the start of the 46th over. The Muckamore response was just as strange. Jake Collingwood got the huge wicket of Brand with the first ball of the second over and despite there being no rush for runs, van der Merwe scored 35 off 19 balls (six fours and a six) and then holed out to Collingwood. The last seven wickets added just 70 runs, with Adam Leckey helping himself to another five-wicket haul and James West cleaned up the tail.

He was helped by Neil Whitworth and Ben Calitz, who hit four sixes in his 41, from 32 balls and Mark Adair also made his return to the team, scoring a modest 11 from 24 balls; he didn’t bowl. Muckamore’s innings, not for the first time, was dominated by Neil Brand who hit 139, with 17 fours and two sixes, but only Chinmay Dakhane and captain for the day Aditya Adey made double figures as the home side were bowled out in 46 overs.

Harry Zimmermann's second 'Five-For' in as many days (Ian Callender)
Muckamore pulled off a sensational four runs victory over North Down to maintain their Premier League title charge. Defending only 107, they bowled out their visitors for 103 with Jason van der Merwe having Tyron Koen caught at long-off to give him his fifth wicket. Earlier Harry Zimmermann had also taken five wickets, for the second day in a row as he ripped through the middle order to reduce Muckamore to 81 for nine. But a last wicket stand of 26 – how crucial that was – between Chinmay Dakhane and Josh Wilson got them into three figures. Van der Merwe had started his day in the field by running out the unfortunate Tom Crothers before he had faced a ball and when he took his first wicket, Kian Hilton caught behind for 30, North Down were still in charge at 59 for three. But they collapsed to 83 for eight and 99 for nine and although Koen hit van der Merwe for a boundary off the first ball of his seventh over, two balls later he holed out to give Muckamore a crucial sixth league victory of the season.

Muckamore (Rain interrupted - reduced to 49 overs. Further interrupted and abandoned)
Lisburn and Muckamore must do it again after Wallace Park suffered the worst of the rain and the game could not resume after Lisburn had made 89 for three in 16.4 overs. The game was notable, however, for the first appearance in Lisburn colours of Nikolai Smith after his fall-out at Instonians. Smith was 27 not out from 47 balls when the rain arrived, coming to the middle in the second over after Jude Markham was dismissed first ball by Aditya Adey. Ross Adair, a member of the Ireland team that defeated India last weekend, hit seven fours in his 31.

Nathan Cole, Morne Barnard, S Macbeth and David Barnard claimed a wicket apiece. St Johnston’s reply faltered early when Deepak Reddy fell for 4, and although David Lapsley carried his bat for a defiant unbeaten 61, support was limited. Morne Barnard made 6 and Matthew Orr 15, but wickets tumbled steadily. Neil McCurry took 2 for 13 before John Kirkpatrick ripped through the lower order with a match-winning 6 for 38.

Speer made 27, while Lyons top-scored with 31 before skipper Naomi Matthews added late momentum with an unbeaten 21 from just 14 balls to lift the visitors to 94 for 2 in 15 overs. DLS raised Muckamore’s target to 101 and Oshadi Ranasinghe’s 34-ball 47, including five fours, put them in contention. However, Matthews turned the game by removing Ranasinghe and Nikki Niblock, finishing with 2 for 14 as Waringstown held on.

Muckamore’s title hopes took a major blow when they lost to Civil Service North by 42 runs. Even without an overseas professional – Ashwin Hebbar is due to return next week – CSN made it two wins out of two in the space of week after their Challenge Cup success at Moylena last Sunday. After slumping to 44 for four, Mark Ellison led the recovery with 72 (seven fours, two sixes) in partnerships of 45 with Harry Dyer and 56 with captain Stuart Thompson. Late runs from Andrew Cowden and Finn Lutton helped them to a total of 228 for nine in their 48 overs. When Muckamore lost Neil Brand to a run out and Jason van der Merwe to an Ellison catch off James West, in the space of six balls, the home side were in trouble. West took five for 35 in his 10 overs to reduce Muckamore to 99 for eight and only Chinmay Dakhane with a maiden senior 50 and Neil Gill’s 26 not out, in a last wicket stand of 60, held up CSN’s victory.

Michael Rae (Marc Ellison)
It was always likely to be the closest match of the round but in the end, Civil Service North had 41 runs to spare when they beat Muckamore at Moylena, the home side bowled out in the 43rd over for 153. Interim professional Michael Rae was the man of the match for outstanding bowling figures of four for 12 from 8.3 overs – he took the last two wickets with successive deliveries – but it was his opening partner Adam Leckey who claimed the huge wicket of Neil Brand, forcing him to play on for just three. While Jason van der Merwe was in the middle, Muckamore still had hope of chasing down CSNI’s 194 but Leckey bowled him as well for 41 to settle the contest. The visitors were in control from the start with Ryan Hunter and Mark Ellison putting on 101 for the first wicket in 23 overs and although they lost all 10 wickets for 93, their total was still more than enough as the bowlers won the day. Brand and van der Merwe each took three wickets for Muckamore at less than three runs an over.

Muckamore beat Woodvale by 7 wickets.
Moylena, 20 June.
Woodvale 116 (39.5 overs; R Bryans 25, R Pretorius 20, J Gibson 20; N Brand 3-25, A Adey 2-8, N Gill 2-12)
Muckamore 117-3 (27.5 overs; S Gordon 46, M Bates 29, J vd Merwe 24*) (Delayed start - Match reduced to 47 overs)
Woodvale’s batting woes continued with another vastly below par total at Moylena. Bowled out for 116, with only Ross Bryans getting past 20, they lost by seven wickets in the 28th over. The win keeps Muckamore in second place, with a match in hand over leaders Waringstown. They could even afford Neil Brand to fail, caught and bowled by Ruhan Pretorius for six, as Sam Gordon stepped up to score 46, dismissed two runs short of the winning post. Woodvale’s innings got off to a disastrous start with Finn Restieaux out first ball and professional Ludwig Kaestner run out by Aditya Adey without scoring. Adey then two wickets for eight runs in his five overs and Neil Brand hurried the innings to a conclusion with three wickets.

Muckamore lost to Instonians by 6 wickets.
Moylena, 14 June.

Instonians 109-4 (12.4 overs; Shane Dadswell 94*; Neil Gill 3-15)
Shane Dadswell ensured Instonians’ title defence remains on track with a one-man display in the champions six wickets win over Muckamore at Moylena. After bowling out the home side for 107 – Dadswell three for 25 – the South African professional hit 94 of the Instonians reply as he wrapped up victory in the 13th over. A superb opening spell by Muckamore captain Neil Gill claimed the wickets of Sully Gould, first ball, Jack Dickson and Andrew White, second ball, as the visitors slumped to nine for four. But Dadswell virtually single-handedly took them to victory – Nikolai Smith was 10 not out- when his 10th six, to go with five other boundaries, won the match. It was opposite number Neil Brand who carried the Muckamore innings with 43 (four fours and a six) but he faced only 32 of the 80 balls when he was in the middle as wickets fell around him. Indeed Muckamore were 56 for eight and it needed the last pair of Gill (18 not out) and Luka Bates (16) to get them into three into three figures with a last wicket stand of 32.

Muckamore continued their impressive start to the season with a convincing eight wickets victory over Cliftonville Academy at the Castle Grounds. The summer’s leading run-scorer extended his advantage with 80 not out and shared an unbeaten partnership of 103 with Jason van der Merwe who won the match with his fourth six while also bringing up his 50 at exactly a run-a-ball. Muckamore 59-2 (8.3 overs; N Brand 42) (Rain interrupted - multiple reductions - Muckamore target 125 off 22 overs)

The home side were well placed after 30 overs on 117 for two but in the rush for quick runs between the showers they added only 55 more runs and were bowled out with four balls unused. Only Anwar Khan with 24 off 20 balls reached double figures as Neil Gill and Neil Brand shared seven wickets. Brand hit 42 of Muckamore’s 59 runs, from 22 balls with four fours and three sixes but was caught in the deep from what proved to be the last ball of the match. Muckamore professional Neil Brand proved he was human, dismissed for 17 by the in-form Adam Leckey and only Jason van der Merwe stepped up in his place, to top score with 76. Indeed it needed an unbeaten ninth wicket stand of 38 between Allen Coulter and Luka Bates to get them up to 230. All the CSN batters contributed in an impressive chase. No partnership was longer than 10 overs and the highest was 53 - only Jake Collingwood reached 50 - but captain Stuart Thompson and Finn Lutton saw them home with five balls to spare.

Instonians 130-4 (20 overs; Anna Ellerby 47*, Matilda McCartney 36)
Muckamore edged a tense contest at Moylena by 11 runs as Instonians were left to rue a costly number of extras in a closely-fought encounter. Batting first, Muckamore posted 141-6 from their 20 overs, with Beth McCrea leading the way with 31, striking four boundaries in a lively innings at the top of the order. Rebekah Mairs then provided an important late flourish, finishing unbeaten on 23 from just 16 balls, including three fours. However, the defining contribution to the innings came from Instonians’ indiscipline with the ball. Muckamore were gifted 46 extras, including a remarkable 36 wides, and those additional runs ultimately proved decisive. Sanvi Vinothkumar was the pick of the bowlers claiming 3-40. Instonians battled hard in reply and looked in contention for much of the chase thanks to an excellent third-wicket partnership of 66 between Anna Ellerby and Matilda McCartney. Ellerby anchored the innings with an unbeaten 47 from 45 balls, while McCartney made an aggressive 36 from 25 deliveries, hitting five boundaries. Despite their efforts, Instonians closed on 130-4, just short of their target.

Laurelvale lost to Muckamore by 287 runs.
Laurelvale, 2 May.
Muckamore 344-7 (50 overs; N Brand 124, J vd Merwe 48, A Shields 44, M Bates 42, L Allen 28, A Adey 27; B Khan 4-74)
Laurelvale 57 (24.3 overs; D Sinton 20; N Brand 4-13, J vd Merwe 3-8, A Coulter 3-31)
Neil Brand back in the groove with a hardi-hitting 124.
It was a brand new experience for all the Laurelvale players when they proudly took the field for their first match in the top section of the NCU for 54 years but it was Neil Brand who gave them a taste of what they can expect over the next four months. The South African scored 124 off 93 balls (11 fours, six sixes) as Muckamore piled up 344 for seven, although no other batter reached 50, which will be a disappointment. Babar Khan took four of the wickets. It was no easier when Laurelvale went out to bat. Mark Thornbury scored their first run off the bat, in the fourth over but they had already lost two wickets and they were bowled out in the 25th over for 57, Brand finishing with figures of 10-5-13-4 as Muckamore refused to take their foot off the pedal. Allen Coulter and Jason van der Merwe equally shared the other wickets. Captain David Sinton top scored for the new boys with 20.
