Basement side Laurelvale ended the season with their second victory of the season, and end a desperately disappointing summer for Woodvale. Babar Khan led the way for last year’s Section one champions with 87 from 45 balls, with six fours and seven sixes. He was out with 18 runs to win but Daryl Henry ended the match and the season in style with a six and half the overs to spare. Woodvale had endured a horror start with Khurshid Subhani and Adam Speers reducing them to 26 for five, including captain Ruhan Pretorius for 12. But Patrick Tice and James Martin claimed back some respectability with a sixth wicket stand of 91. Martin was leg before to Michael Burns for 40, the first of his four wickets, and Patrick Tice was run out for 74. But the last three wickets all fell with the score on 167, which allowed Laurelvale a straightforward chase to a seven wickets win.

Cliftonville Academy won the battle for eighth place in the Premier League with a comfortable 85 runs victory over Woodvale. CJ Klijhans made it back to back centuries with 110 from 96 balls, with 13 fours and five sixes. He received good support from Adam Kelso, Matthew McCord and Dawood Khan who all made 30s before CA were bowled out with 10 balls unused for 292. Ruhan Pretorius, who dismissed Klijhans, replied with 101 (14 fours and a six) but only Ryan Copeland and Extras got into the 20s. McCord dismissed Pretorius and then wrapped up the innings with the last two wickets in the 42nd over.

Laurelvale, at the 12th time of asking, won their first Premier League game and Mark Thornbury hit their first century in a five wickets success at Ballygomartin Road. Thornbury scored 103, with 12 fours and a six and took his side to within 32 runs of victory. Captain David Sinton and Babar Khan, both 18 not out, finished the job with 11 balls to spare. Ruhan Pretorius had scored the first hundred of the day, his 108 coming off 96 balls with 12 fours and five sixes in a third wicket stand of 174 with Carl Robinson who made 56, before he was one of Adam Speers' five wickets. Woodvale were 244 for six with nine overs remaining but impressive bowling from Kurshid Subhani and Babar Khan restricted them to just 16 runs, and bowled out in the penultimate over.

Cliftonville Academy won their third game of the season, in a 671-run thriller at Ballygomartin Road, chasing down their target with seven balls and three wickets to spare. Professional CP Klinjhans launched the chase with 133 from 61 balls (12 sixes, nine fours) supported by 77 from Adam Kelso and almost finished off by David O’Sullivan. After his dismissal, CA still needed seven and Aadi Maini and Andrew Forbes saw them home. Three Woodvale batters made 60s but no-one could go any further. Harry Warke and Ludwig Kaestner put on 117 for the second wicket and Finn Restieaux and and James Rose 72 for the fifth wicket. But 51 from the last 10 overs just wasn’t enough as Alfie Wylie and Ben Kane shared seven wickets.

The wickets ran out for Woodvale in their chase for CI’s 305 for nine, bowled out just 21 runs short with 16 balls unused. While Ashwin Shetty was in the middle, the visitors were on course for victory but when he gave a return catch to Satish Suresh, Woodvale were nine down with the total on 269. Shetty, who scored 52 from 45 balls with seven fours and a six, was the third player to hit a half-century. Earlier Ruhan Pretorius scored 72 and put on 71 for the fifth wicket with Finn Restieaux who hit eight boundaries in his 43 from 35 balls. Chris Dougherty, yet again, led the way for CI with 85 and captain John Matchett, Jack Beattie and Jacob Mulder with 30 off 19, all made significant contributions as they topped 300. Mulder also had the best bowing figures of the day, three for 35 in his 10 overs.

Woodvale kept alive their hopes of a top six finish with a crushing 10 wickets victory over Cliftonville Academy at Ballygomartin Road. After bowling out the visitors for 94, their revised target was 89 in 36 overs and they won with more than 27 overs to spare. Harry Warke brought up his 50 in 27 balls with his fourth six and Francis Collins was 29 not out at the end. Not one CA batter got past 20 with the fifth wicket stand of 36 between Chris Whitten and David O’Sullivan the best. James Martin dismissed both after Evan Carlisle had taken three of the first five.

An undefeated century by Mike Erlank guided North Down to their third win of the season in their push for another top six finish. Erlank was 106 not out at exactly a run a ball (14 fours, one six) when the home side won by five wickets in the 38th over. The only support he received was in a third wicket stand of 148 from Kian Hilton with the other five batters scoring just 18 between them although Tom Crothers’ crucial nine not out ensured no late drama. Woodvale were bowled out for exactly 200 in the 49th over, captain Ruhan Pretorius top scoring with 62, but it was always a struggle against tight bowling. Craig Young, Tyron Koen, Jaxon Dines and Erlank all going at less than four runs an over.

Woodvale’s batting woes continued with another vastly below par total at Moylena. Bowled out for 116, with only Ross Bryans getting past 20, they lost by seven wickets in the 28th over. The win keeps Muckamore in second place, with a match in hand over leaders Waringstown. They could even afford Neil Brand to fail, caught and bowled by Ruhan Pretorius for six, as Sam Gordon stepped up to score 46, dismissed two runs short of the winning post. Woodvale’s innings got off to a disastrous start with Finn Restieaux out first ball and professional Ludwig Kaestner run out by Aditya Adey without scoring. Adey then two wickets for eight runs in his five overs and Neil Brand hurried the innings to a conclusion with three wickets.

An astonishing innings of 126 not out by Woodvale captain Ruhan Pretorius could not prevent Leinster from reaching the semi-final of the Irish Cup. Pretorius rescued Woodvale from the perils of 76 for seven to a total of 176 for seven with his partner in the eighth wicket century stand, James Martin, having to face only 12 of the 62 balls; Martin scored a solitary single. After a delayed start, the game was reduced to 35 overs and Leinster, after winning the toss controlled the first 24.4 overs. None of the other batters made double figures as Jay Moondra and Thomas O’Connor took the first four wickets, including Ludwig Keastner for an 11-ball duck. But Pretorius took control for last 10 overs, hitting 12 sixes and five fours in his 112-ball innings. When Younas Ahmadzai and Gareth Delany were sharing a third wicket stand of 95, Leinster seemed to be strolling to victory but James Martin broke the partnership and when Pretorius forced Delany to play on for 73 (six fours, four sixes), the visitors still needed 28 at a run a ball. Tight bowling from Pretorius and Evan Carlisle left them requiring 18 off the last two overs, but Saqib Bahadur and Joey Carroll took 16 off the penultimate over and they got over the line with three balls and four wickets to spare.

Civil Service North’s temporary professional Michael Rae and Adam Leckey ripped through the Woodvale top order to make victory a formality in the second round tie against Woodvale at Stormont. Rea, an unused member of New Zealand’s Test squad in Belfast last month, is filling in while Ashwin Hebbar is back in India for three weeks, took three for nine in his first five overs and Leckey took the other two wickets as Woodvale collapsed to 19 for five in reply to the home side’s 163. Only Ludwig Kaestner held up the procession, with 44 from 64 balls, and he was still unbeaten as Rae added two more wickets to finish with five for 25 from seven overs, Woodvale bowled out for 79 in the 24th over. Only Harry Dyer, at No 5, stayed for any length of time in the first innings, scoring 45 from 82 balls and he was last man out at the start of the 49th over, giving Kaestner his fourth wicket, while Evan Carlisle and Aswin Shetty shared the other six.

The NCU Challenge Cup tie between CSNI and Woodvale fell victim to the weather after only 15 overs at Stormont, forcing the teams into a replay. CSNI had reached 61-2 when conditions brought proceedings to an early end. Woodvale made the early breakthroughs thanks to Ruhan Pretorius, who struck twice in an impressive spell of 2-12. He removed both James West and Adam Leckey to leave CSNI under pressure. However, opener Marc Ellison helped steady the innings with an unbeaten 19, while Jake Collingwood was alongside him on 17 not out when the abandonment was confirmed. The match also marked the debut of New Zealand international Michael Rae for CSNI. The pace bowler has joined the club as a replacement professional while Ashwin Hebbar returns to India for a short T20 tournament.

An understrength Woodvale team were still too strong for Laurelvale as they completed victory by 113 runs. Harry Warke led the way for the visitors with 73 from 62 balls (12 fours one six) but when he was third out in the 22nd over with the total on 143, Woodvale lost their way and the next five wickets fell for 42 runs. But Ross Copeland then took centre stage and with Evan Carlisle and Matthew Peak put on 91 for the last two wickets, Copeland the last man out for 52, having hit four fours and two sixes. Babar Khan got Laurelvale off to a good start with 42 from 44 balls and captain Davy Sinton then provided good resistance in a 65-ball stay. But Carlisle ripped through the middle/lower order to finish with five for 33 and the basement side, still waiting for their first Premier League win, were bowled out in 41 overs.

Waringstown went to the top of Group B with a nine-wicket demolition of Woodvale at the Lawn. Only Ruhan Pretorius (41) reached double figures as the ballygomartin side were bundled out for 91 - three wickets apiece for Graham Hume and skipper Greg Thompson, while left-arm spinner James Cameron-Dow collected two. Steve Solk went cheaply in the chase, but the home side didn't mess about, James McCollum (47*) and Morgan Topping (37*) adding 80 in six overs, peppering the boundary with regularity in the most one-sided of contests.

A superb opening spell of 8-3-20-6 by captain Ruhan Pretorius set Woodvale up for a stunning victory at Ballgomartin Road and end Balbriggan’s reign as Irish Cup holders at the first hurdle. Pretorius single-handedly reduced Balbriggan to 46 for six and only a rearguard 43, from 98 balls by Aaron McGeehan allowed the north Dubliners to bat 40 overs. He was last man out with the total on 138. It proved no problem for the NCU side, who had beaten Premier League champions Instonians the previous day. Ludwig Kaestner also took three wickets and added 84 with Pretorius, who finished the job with the bat as well; he was 51 not out when Woodvale won in the 43rd over.

Shane Dadswell played what is sure to be one of the innings of the season but ended up on the losing side as Woodvale inflicted the first league defeat on defending champions Instonians. Dadswell was last man out for 137 – second top score was 17 – as he showed that class batsmen can play on any surface. Woodvale won a huge toss on an soft, uncovered pitch, and Instonians slumped to 139 for nine with Ashwin Shetty taking four of the wickets. But Dadswell had already taken control and with No 11 Freddy Pearson, promoted from the Seconds, added another 70 for the last wicket. Pearson faced eight balls, without scoring! Dadswell finished with 13 sixes and just three fours. With the pitch drying out all the time under the sun, Woodvale found it much easier to bat and lost only two wickets in the chase. Finn Restieaux, opening the batting, hit 62 (six fours and three sixes) and Ludwig Kaestner finished the job in style with 91 not out, from 78 balls, hitting five fours and seven sixes.

Civil Service North’s young guns Harry Dyer and Adam Leckey steered them to a six wickets (DLS) victory. Set 156 in 23 overs, the visitors slumped to 74 for four after 10 overs. But Dyer 44, with four sixes, and Leckey 36 from 30 balls would not be parted after Ruhan Pretorius had taken three early wickets. However the Woodvale captain and professional Ludwig Kaestner could score only 36 between them in their side’s total of 211 for eight from 46 overs. Francis Collins top scored with 55 and and James West took three wickets in an accurate 10-over spell.

Woodvale piled up an imposing 210 for 5 at Tandragee before cruising to a 91-run victory over Laurelvale. Francis Collins led the charge with a sparkling 67 from 44 balls, including seven fours and four sixes, sharing an 80-run second wicket stand in seven overs with skipper Ruhan Pretorius, who struck 47. Ludwig Kaestner provided early momentum with a rapid 31 from 17 deliveries. Babar Khan and Muhammad Ajmal claimed two wickets apiece. Laurelvale never seriously threatened the target, finishing on 119 for 4, with Adnan Malik making 35 and Mark Thornbury 25.

Woodvale posted the highest ever Irish Cup total – until it was beaten twice inside half an hour! – when they scored 428 for five against a hapless Bready attack. The top three batters all hit centuries, Harry Warke the first to the landmark from 71 balls. He was first out with the total on 228, having hit 14 fours and six sixes in a stand with Francis Collins who made a run-ball-106. Ludwig Kastner then finished the job with 125 not out from just 76 balls with eight fours and 10 sixes. Respect to Davy Scanlon who took three for 58 amid the carnage. A last wicket stand of 31, the second hight of the innings, delayed the inevitable with Bready all out in the 34th over for 190.

A century stand between skipper John Matchett and Charlie Swart led CI to a 50-run win over Woodvale at Ballygomartin Road. Batting first, opener Jake Egan hit a quickfire 12-ball 28 (2 fours, 3 sixes) to get the CI innings up and running before the duo's match-defining nine-over partnership. Highly rated teenager Swart top-scored with 56 from 33 balls, while Matchett's 52 took two balls more - both clearing the ropes three times as well as hitting five fours. Satish Suresh (29) gave the innings a late boost with three sixes in an entertaining cameo as they finished on 196 for 9 - two wickets each for Ruhan Pretorius and Ludwig Kaestner. The chase never kept up with the required tempo despite the best efforts of Kaestner who hit seven sixes in a 32-ball 67. Suresh (3-21) and Irish youth international Alex Armstrong (2-24) doing the bulk of the damage were restricted to 146 for 7.

Waringstown enjoyed a winning start but the worry was the retirement of Sam Topping with a twisted knee. Despite the early setback, the Villagers totalled 313 for five with every batsman reaching double figures, although new professional Steve Stolk was run out for 10. Morgan Topping top scored with 71 from 78 balls. In Woodvale’s reply, Graham Hume struck two early blows but professional Ludwig Kaestner and captain Ruhan Pretorius added 102 for the third wicket, Pretorius the first to go for 53, from 50 balls. With Kaestner’s dismissal, leg before to James Mitchell for 80, Woodvale’s hopes faded – as did the light and the umpires took the teams off at the end of the 45th over with the visitors on 248 for nine, giving Waringstown victory by 57 runs (DLS).
