Jenner and Lawrenson shine as Jersey overpower Denmark
JONTY JENNER and Josh Lawrenson struck contrasting half-centuries as Jersey powered to an impressive 72-run victory over Denmark in a high-scoring encounter.
The pair both made 81 as Jersey amassed an imposing 312 for eight from their 50 overs, before Zak Tribe and Benjamin Ward claimed three wickets apiece to dismiss Denmark for 240.
Jenner provided the fireworks, smashing ten boundaries and four sixes in a blistering 53-ball innings, while Lawrenson played the anchor role with a measured 81 from 97 deliveries. Their 116-run fourth-wicket partnership transformed Jersey's innings after they had slipped to 89 for three.
Earlier, Julius Sumerauer had contributed a lively 43 from 46 balls, striking six fours and a six. The middle order maintained the momentum, with Ward making 31 from 25 deliveries and William Perchard adding 23. Skipper Charles Perchard provided a final flourish, striking two boundaries in an unbeaten ten from just three deliveries.
Abdullah Mahmood was Denmark's outstanding bowler, claiming four for 63, while Lucky Ali picked up two wickets.
Denmark's reply began disastrously when Musa Shaheen was trapped lbw by Harrison Carlyon from the very first delivery. However, Lucky Ali and captain Hamid Shah revived their hopes with a second-wicket partnership of 105. Ali struck ten fours and a six in his 66, while Shah contributed a patient 41.
Jersey's spinners then took control, with Ward and Tribe combining to rip through Denmark's middle order. From 106 for one, the Danes slumped to 147 for five, leaving their hopes of an unlikely victory hanging by a thread. Sebastian Heath (28) and Mahmood (27) offered resistance, but the target remained well beyond reach.
Tribe finished with three for 44, Ward claimed three for 38, and Charles Perchard took two for 31 as Jersey completed a thoroughly deserved victory.
Summary Score:
Jersey 312/8 (50 overs; Jonty Jenner 81, Josh Lawrenson 81, Abdullah Mahmood 4-63) beat Denmark 240 (47.5 overs; Lucky Ali 66, Hamid Shah 41, Benjamin Ward 3-38, Zak Tribe 3-44) by 72 runs.
