Tribe brothers and Ward star as Jersey crush Kenya by 123 runs

JERSEY produced a commanding all-round performance to thrash Kenya by 123 runs, with the Tribe brothers starring with the bat before Ben Ward claimed five wickets to complete a comprehensive victory.

The islanders piled up an imposing 320 for nine from their 50 overs, with Asa Tribe top-scoring with 72 and brother Zak contributing 65 as Kenya's bowlers struggled to contain the powerful batting line-up.

Openers Harrison Carlyon and Josh Lawrenson laid the foundations with a partnership of 86, Carlyon striking a fluent half-century and Lawrenson adding 37. Kenya briefly fought back with two wickets in quick succession, but the Tribe brothers took control, sharing a superb third-wicket partnership of 133 to put Jersey firmly in command.

Asa made 72 before falling lbw to Sachin Gill, while Zak hit 65 as the pair ensured a substantial total. Jonty Jenner chipped in with 25, while Benjamin Ward contributed 19 as Jersey passed the 300-mark. Gill was the pick of the Kenyan attack with three for 54, while Francis Mutua and Peter Langat claimed two wickets apiece.

Kenya's reply never really threatened the target despite half-centuries from Dhiren Gondaria and Sachin Gill.

Gondaria struck 55, but wickets fell regularly at the other end as the Africans slumped to 91 for five. Gill attempted to revive the chase with a determined 60, receiving support from Sukhdeep Singh, who made 31, but the required rate continued to climb.

Ward then took centre stage, ripping through the lower order to finish with outstanding figures of five for 28 from nine overs, including two maidens. Zak Tribe completed an excellent personal performance with two for 34 as Kenya were dismissed for 197.

Summary Score: Jersey 320/9 (50 overs; Asa Tribe 72, Zak Tribe 65, Harrison Carlyon 50, Sachin Gill 3-54) beat Kenya 197 (42 overs; Sachin Gill 60, Dhiren Gondaria 55, Benjamin Ward 5-28, Zak Tribe 2-34) by 123 runs.
