Cregagh swoop for Carrickfergus promotion hero Varape

Cregagh have pulled off a major transfer coup with the signing of prolific Indian all-rounder Atish Varape from newly promoted Carrickfergus.

The move comes after Varape, who played a starring role in Carrick's successful promotion campaign, is ineligible to compete in the Premiership next season.

His departure represents a significant blow to the Middle Road side, but a massive boost for Cregagh, who have secured one of the most productive all-rounders in NCU cricket.

Varape enjoyed an extraordinary 2026 campaign, amassing a remarkable 1,090 runs at an average of 77.86, including two centuries and eight half-centuries. His highest score was an unbeaten 104, while his consistency throughout the summer was instrumental in Carrickfergus securing their return to the top flight.

And it wasn't just with the bat that he made his mark. Varape was equally influential with the ball, collecting an impressive 41 wickets at an average of 18.29, with best figures of five for 48. Those remarkable returns made him Carrick's leading run-scorer and wicket-taker, underlining his importance to their promotion success.

His arrival gives Cregagh a proven match-winner capable of influencing games with both bat and ball as they look to make their mark in the 2027 campaign.
