Brand and Hanna shine as Saintfield endure frustrating Section One campaign
Saintfield endured a disappointing season in Section One, finishing seventh despite some outstanding individual performances, most notably from overseas professional Werner Brand, who enjoyed a truly exceptional campaign, and Ethan Hanna with the ball.

The South African was comfortably the standout performer for the Demesne side, producing remarkable all-round statistics that made him one of the competition's most influential players.
Brand amassed a staggering 1272 runs in 24 innings at an average of 57.82, including five centuries and four half-centuries, with a highest score of 176. His attacking approach was reflected in a strike rate of 128.6, with 152 boundaries and 36 sixes as he regularly took opposition attacks apart. He also made a significant contribution with the ball, claiming 28 wickets, including superb best figures of 6 for 33, underlining his importance to the team.

However, despite Brand's heroics, Saintfield struggled to find the consistency required to challenge further up the table. Gareth Harrison provided excellent support with the bat, scoring 614 runs at 32.32, including five half-centuries and a highest score of 87. There was then a considerable gap to the remainder of the batting order, with Will McNeilly next on 321 runs, followed by Andrew McCavera with 292 and Brijesh Krishali with 256.
TJ McCavera contributed 217 runs, including an unbeaten 54, but too often Saintfield found themselves relying heavily on Brand and Harrison to provide substantial totals.
With the ball, however, there were some excellent performances, particularly from Ethan Hanna.

Hanna enjoyed a magnificent campaign, claiming 43 wickets at an average of just 17.21, including two five-wicket hauls and outstanding best figures of 5 for 14. Krishali was another consistent wicket-taker, collecting 29 scalps at 21.34, while Adam Sofley chipped in with 22 wickets. Harrison also underlined his all-round value with 12 wickets, including impressive best figures of 4 for 11.
There was clearly plenty of talent within the Saintfield ranks, particularly in an attack boasting several proven wicket-takers. Ultimately, though, seventh place represented a frustrating return, especially considering the extraordinary contribution of their overseas professional.
The challenge for Saintfield next season will be developing greater depth and consistency with the bat, ensuring the burden of scoring runs is spread more evenly throughout the side. If they can address those shortcomings, there is every reason to believe they can enjoy a significantly improved campaign.
