Donacloney Mill left frustrated by inconsistent campaign

Donacloney Mill endured a frustrating season in Section One, finishing fifth in the table after a campaign that promised much but ultimately failed to deliver a sustained challenge for honours.

Nine wins and nine defeats told the story of a side that struggled for consistency, although there were some outstanding individual performances, particularly from overseas star Lachy Aitken and prolific wicket-taker Alex Ogle.

Aitken was the standout performer with the bat, accumulating an impressive 769 runs at an average of 51.27 and a strike rate of 103.5. His tally included six half-centuries and a magnificent unbeaten 140, while his attacking approach produced 84 boundaries and 25 sixes.

He was also a valuable contributor with the ball, claiming 16 wickets, making him one of the side's most influential all-round performers.

Shane Warren was the next highest run-scorer with 522, although his average of 22.70 reflected the inconsistency that troubled the side. Ryan Matthews enjoyed a productive campaign with 475 runs at 33.93, including four half-centuries, while Neil Kilpatrick contributed 445 runs.

Aaron Kennedy was another to impress, scoring 401 runs at an average of 40.10, including an unbeaten century, while Craig Kennedy chipped in with 280. Matthew Lyttle also reached three figures during the campaign, his century the highlight of a 254-run tally.

However, it was with the ball that Donacloney Mill possessed arguably their greatest asset. Alex Ogle enjoyed a superb season, claiming 40 wickets at an excellent average of 18.25, with best figures of 4 for 19. His consistency and ability to make breakthroughs proved invaluable throughout the campaign.

Lyttle provided solid support with 22 wickets, while Lewis Goodbarn collected 18. Aitken and Aaron Kennedy each claimed 16, ensuring there was plenty of variety in the bowling attack.

Avadhoot Dandekar also impressed during his brief involvement, scoring 153 runs in three innings and taking six wickets at just 11.67 apiece.

Ultimately, Donacloney Mill will look back on a season of missed opportunities. With plenty of individual quality throughout the squad, the challenge next year will be turning that potential into a more consistent collective effort and a genuine promotion challenge.
