Amsterdam Flames moved into second place with a facile 59 runs victory over Dublin Guardians who bowed out on their home ground at Malahide with a whimper.

The Flames, on the back of the highest partnership of the tournament posted the highest total, 214 for five and Dublin were never going to threaten that after losing two wickets in the first over.

The new record stand of 115 – the  fourth of 100+ - was between Bas De Leede and Curtis Campher for the third wicket in just 11 overs. Campher scored the only half-century of the innings, celebrating his landmark, which came off 27 balls, by hitting Craig Young for back to back sixes followed by a four. But he was lbw next ball and de Leede followed two balls later, one short of his 50, to a brilliant diving catch by Harry Tector.

However, Tim David came in and blasted away but he too missed out on his 50, although not necessarily his own fault. His captain Scott Edwards started the last over on strike and couldn’t get off it until the final ball because he hit three successive fours before the single. That gave David the chance to hit a six for the fastest 50 of the tournament, but his 21st ball bounced short and he had to be satisfied with 48.

Craig Young grabbed his second successive three-wicket haul, albeit at a cost of 50 runs; David Willey and Ravi Ashwin, the only bowlers to concede less than 10 runs an over, were the other wicket-takers.

Dublin opening batters David Willey and Muhammad Waseem were both caught behind off David Payne and Tector enjoyed two lives before he was also caught by Edwards, the ball after his second drop on 25 off 18 balls.

Daryl Mitchell, Noah Croes, in for Ben Calitz, and Vijay Shankar all got to 30 but were out shortly afterwards, two of the wickets to Michael Bracewell who finished with the parsimonious figures of three for 14 from his four overs.

Payne and Campher also claimed three wickets with the Ireland international receiving the player of the match award.

The Flames, have only one game left, but will still have hopes of finishing in the top two as it is against Glasgow Cosmic, who cannot progress.
