Rush secure Premiership survival with emphatic Clontarf win

Rush ensured their Leinster Premiership survival with a commanding 124-run victory over Clontarf, producing one of their strongest performances of the season when it mattered most.

Batting first, Rush recovered from 16 for two to post an imposing 251 for eight from their 48 overs. Jack McGee steadied the innings with 46 from 70 balls before Abidullah Taniwal changed the tempo with a superb 64 from just 47 deliveries, striking six fours and four sixes. Nasir Totakhil then added 45 from 44 balls, while Asher Abbasi provided a blistering late burst of 31 from only 15 deliveries, including four sixes.

Ethan Marshall claimed three wickets for Clontarf, while Fionn Hand and Yash Balasubramanium took two apiece.

Clontarf’s reply never recovered from the loss of early wickets. Yash Balasubramanium briefly threatened with 28 from 13 balls, but Taniwal removed both him and Seamus Lynch to leave the visitors 48 for three. From there Rush tightened their grip.

Eoghan Delany tried to hold the innings together with 27, but the required rate continued to climb as wickets fell steadily around him. Nathan McGuire and Totakhil then tore through the lower order, each finishing with three wickets. McGuire claimed three for 31, while Totakhil returned three for 23.

Allan Eastwood and Taniwal also picked up two wickets apiece as Clontarf were bowled out for just 127 in 29.4 overs.

The emphatic victory guaranteed Rush another season in the top flight and brought a huge sense of relief after a campaign in which survival had remained uncertain until the very last.
