Leinster suffered a dramatic collapse from 156 for one as Malahide fought back to claim a 22-run victory.

Chasing 246, Leinster appeared to be cruising after recovering from the early loss of Luke Horgan. Bilal Azhar and Monil Patel put together a superb second-wicket partnership of 152 to leave the hosts in a commanding position.

Patel made 62 from 100 balls before his dismissal sparked a remarkable turnaround, while Azhar went on to complete a fine century, scoring 102 from 112 deliveries with nine fours and three sixes.

From 156 for one, however, Leinster lost nine wickets for just 67 runs as Malahide seized control.

David O’Halloran was the chief destroyer, taking five for 71, while Kelvin Donnelly claimed two wickets. Jeremy Martins, Robbie Foulkes and Timcy Khanduja also chipped in as Leinster were bowled out for 223 in 49.1 overs.

Earlier, Malahide had posted 245 for nine from their 50 overs.

Jeremy Martins top-scored with 44, while Matthew Langan’s unbeaten 44 and Kelvin Donnelly’s 20 not out added valuable late runs.

Kaustubh Apsunde and Saqib Bahadur both claimed three wickets for Leinster, but the home side’s batting collapse ultimately proved decisive.

What had looked a comfortable chase became a costly defeat as Malahide produced a superb late fightback.
