Doheny and Undre put Merrion one win from title

Merrion moved to within one victory of the Leinster Premiership title after Stephen Doheny and Raj Undre shared a magnificent unbroken 237-run partnership in a 35-run win over Railway Union.

The pair took complete control after Merrion had laid a good platform at 106 for two, carrying their side to an imposing 343 for two from 50 overs.

Doheny produced a superb unbeaten 164 from 143 balls, striking 18 fours and six sixes, while Undre completed an excellent century of his own, finishing 101 not out from 83 deliveries with eight fours and three sixes.

Swapnil Modgill had earlier made 22 and Sebastian Dijkstra 30, but it was the third-wicket stand that transformed the innings and left Railway facing a daunting chase.

Railway nevertheless made a spirited attempt, led by Bruce Whaley. The teenage opener struck 95 from 90 balls, with 10 fours, and received good support from fellow youth international Rob O'Brien, who made 35.

Philippe Le Roux added 50 from 57 deliveries, while Connor Walden's late 30 ensured Railway remained in contention deep into the innings.

Merrion, though, continued to take wickets at crucial stages. Peter Forkin was the outstanding bowler with four for 52 from his 10 overs, while Andrew Doheny claimed three for 55 and Sean Stanton picked up two wickets.

Railway were eventually dismissed for 308 in the final over, leaving Merrion victorious by 35 runs. The result leaves Merrion just one game away from securing the Premiership crown, with their title destiny now firmly in their own hands.
