Merrion Women moved another significant step closer to the title with a crushing 137-run victory over Balbriggan, inspired by a spectacular century from Rebecca Stokell.

After two early wickets left the leaders on 12 for two, Stokell took complete command, blasting 122 from just 56 balls with 15 fours and five sixes.

She shared a decisive third-wicket stand of 196 with Aisling Lawlor, who contributed 51 from 54 deliveries, as Merrion surged to an imposing 215 for four from their 20 overs.

Balbriggan never threatened the target after losing Madison Landsman for one in the opening over. Lara Maritz made 18 and Julia Hoal 16, but Merrion’s bowlers kept a tight grip on the chase throughout.

Ashwi Manoj was the standout performer, claiming four for seven, while Julianne Morrissey and Niamh MacNulty each took two wickets.

Balbriggan were eventually dismissed for just 78.

The emphatic victory further strengthened Merrion’s position at the top of the table and, with the season entering its decisive stages, the league leaders now have the championship firmly within their grasp.
