BONDS GLEN Women created history by lifting the Senior Cup for the first time with a comprehensive victory over Bready, former player Stephanie Wilkinson returning to haunt her old club with a Player of the Match display.

Asked to bat first, Bonds Glen had to withstand a hostile opening spell from Alana Dalzell, who removed Wilkinson early and finished with an excellent 2-14.

Emily Young and Jessica Cooke steadied the innings with a solid partnership before Rihanna Young added further impetus with 25 from 29 balls.

Bready, though, were guilty of repeatedly helping their opponents through extras, conceding 38 in total, including 29 wides and six no-balls.

With rain threatening, Bonds Glen were denied the chance to use all of their allotted overs, but still reached 132-6 from 24.5 overs, Leah Thompson unbeaten on 16.

Bready began their reply brightly, with Ella Wasson taking the attack to the bowlers in a brisk 33 from 27 balls, including six boundaries.

But once Wilkinson bowled Wasson with the score on 57, the innings rapidly unravelled.

There was little resistance thereafter, Jodie Spence digging in for 27 balls as wickets tumbled around her.

Wilkinson was outstanding, conceding just eight runs from five overs while taking three wickets, with Lucy Thompson claiming 2-9.

Bready were eventually dismissed for 78 in only 16.2 overs, with three run-outs further underlining their collapse, and in truth the Magheramason club could have few complaints about the outcome.

Bonds Glen were the better side throughout and fully deserved an overwhelming victory which saw their name engraved on the Senior Cup for the first time.

For Wilkinson, it was a particularly sweet afternoon — Player of the Match against the club she once represented.
