Scotland levelled the Under-15 Celtic Cup series with a five-wicket victory over Ireland at Upritchard Park, Bangor, ensuring that the honours were shared after a week of fluctuating fortunes.

Ireland, asked to bat first, were indebted to a superb unbeaten 70 from Felix McMillan, playing on his home turf, as they reached 123 for nine from their 20 overs. McMillan struck eight fours in his 68-ball innings and held the home batting together as wickets tumbled steadily around him.

After Vidath Geddam fell without scoring, Gautam Rana made five and Joe Morrissey nine, while captain David Agnew contributed eight. Alfie Moan, Shravon Biju and Elliott Parkhill were also unable to provide lasting support as Scotland kept a firm grip on the innings.

Jack Pomphrey was the pick of the visiting attack with three for 17 from four overs, while Ameer Hamid, Aaban Owais, Felix Amos, Nathan Umeed and Taimoor Shaikh each claimed a wicket.

Scotland’s reply was given early momentum by captain John Boothman, who made 14 from nine balls, and Nathan Umeed, whose brisk 21 came from 14 deliveries.

Ireland fought back to leave the visitors 66 for four, but Ethan Shedbal produced the decisive innings. His composed even time 45, containing four fours and a six, put Scotland firmly on course.

Shedbal added 56 in eight overs for the fifth wicket with Aaban Owais, who finished unbeaten on 21, before falling with only two required.

Elliott Parkhill took two wickets for Ireland, with Jacob Blair and Hridhaan Salian also striking, but Scotland reached their target in the penultimate over.

A valuable week for all concerned and plenty to work on over the winter with their respective coaches.
