Pembroke power past Newbuildings to keep quintuple dream alive

Pembroke’s remarkable quest for a domestic clean sweep of five trophies remained firmly on course after they thrashed Newbuildings by 62 runs in their All-Ireland T20 Cup semi-final.

The Dublin kingpins posted 157, with Addison Sheriff striking 32 from 25 balls and Jack Tector top-scoring with 39 from 29.

Tim Tector had earlier made 24 as Pembroke raced to 88 for two inside 10 overs, before Newbuildings fought back impressively.

Jared Wilson and Josh Wilson claimed three wickets apiece, while Jason Dunn took two as Pembroke were bowled out with three balls unused.

Any hopes Newbuildings had of exploiting the notoriously quick Sydney Parade outfield quickly disappeared.

They slumped to 31 for four, losing Jason Dunn, Jared Wilson, Mark Hanna and West Indian international Peat Salmon cheaply.

Gareth McKeegan launched a spirited counter-attack, smashing four sixes in 38 from 27 balls, but received little support as the visitors were dismissed for 95 in 18.5 overs.

Sheriff and Tim Tector both collected two wickets, with Pembroke’s attack maintaining relentless pressure throughout.

The emphatic victory means Pembroke remain on course for an extraordinary five-trophy season and sets up an eagerly-awaited final against Lisburn at Waringstown.
