The records tumbled at Oak Hill as Typhoons beat Dragons by 35 runs to set up a title decider for the SS50 Cup at Bready on Monday.

Ireland and Typhoons captain Gaby Lewis hit the highest individual score of the competition, their total of 390 for two was by 44 runs the highest ever and the match aggregate of 745 was also comfortably the best.

Lewis , who gave only one chance, on 185, was out for 198, caught at short fine leg by young Penny Speer off the first ball of the 48th over, when everyone was waiting to acclaim the first double century by a woman in an inter-provincial. Her sixth century in the competition came off 85 balls with 14 fours and a six, out of 206 and her next 98 runs came off just 52 balls with a further 13 fours and a six.

The opening partnership of 161 was ended by needless run out, with Lara Maritz on 68 and Lewis’ then added 198 with her predecessor as Ireland captain, Laura Delany, a record for the second wicket in the competition and the third highest for any wicket. Delany finished on 86 not out from 68 balls.

Zara Craig was the sole wicket-taker in the innings, and, indeed, only five wickets fell in the first 90 overs as Dragons reached 255 for three in reply with Zara Craig 70 not out and Leah Paul on 71 not out from 55 balls, having added 110 for the fourth wicket.

Ellie McGee had Craig caught next ball but Paul went on to score her first century, full of trademark scoops, ramps and switch hits, and she kept the Typhoons honest with a superb counter-attack. She had almost single-handedly got the target down to 46 off the last two overs – she hit four successive fours off McGee – but was out 10 balls from the finish to end Dragons’ chase. Her final score was 117 from 74 balls with 20 fours.

Jane Maguire ended her innings, to pick up a deserved first wicket and a special mention also for 15-year-old Waringstown off spinner Speer who bowled seven overs for just 37 runs in the Typhoons innings before, predictably tiring and conceding 33 in her final three overs.
