Malahide Women recovered from a dramatic top-order collapse to secure a five-wicket victory over The Hills in a low-scoring contest.

The Hills were dismissed for just 53 in 13.3 overs after Freya Sargent and Sarah Brophy tore through the batting order.

Sargent claimed four for 11, removing Aimee Scollard, Vanessa Scollard, Erin Casey and Tara O’Brien, while Brophy returned three for 21. Meg Thompson, Allie Harley and Haley Moore collected the remaining wickets.

Eve Meachen offered the main resistance with 18, while Caoimhe Scollard finished unbeaten on 12. However, wickets fell regularly as The Hills slipped to 20 for seven before some late runs gave them a total to defend.

Malahide’s reply began disastrously. Amy Hunter and Freya Sargent fell to Jane Maguire, while Lara McBride removed Sorcha O’Carolan Murphy and Juliette Evans Garrett as the visitors slumped to seven for four.

Thompson then transformed the chase with a calm unbeaten 26. She found valuable support from Moore, who struck 20 as the pair added 45 for the fifth wicket.

Meachen dismissed Moore with only two runs required, but Thompson remained composed and guided Malahide over the finishing line just before mid-way, completing a hard-earned victory.
