Brigade edge St Johnston in tense chase

Brigade secured a hard-fought two-wicket victory over St Johnston after successfully chasing 195 in Donegal.

St Johnston posted 194 for nine from their 50 overs, with Michael Rankin anchoring the innings through a patient 56 from 93 balls. David Lapsley added 20 and Conor Olphert made 23, but the visitors were unable to build lasting partnerships.

David Barr and Trent McKeegan claimed three wickets apiece for Brigade, while Ryan Macbeth took two during an economical spell.

St Johnston's batters suffered no fewer than six lbw decisions - Jack Macbeth given lbw although the card shows bowled.

Brigade’s reply was built around Gavin Roulston’s excellent 67 from 86 balls. He struck seven fours and three sixes, sharing useful partnerships with James Smallwoods, who made 27, and Iftikhar Hussain.

St Johnston fought back strongly after Roulston’s dismissal, with David Anthony removing Andy Britton, Mo Hussain and Ryan Macbeth to leave Brigade wobbling on 171 for eight.

However, Hussain remained unfazed despite a confident run-out appeal early in his innings. His unbeaten 42 from 50 deliveries included five fours and a six.

Jamie Millar provided valuable support with 10 not out as the pair guided Brigade to their target, completing a welcome victory after surviving a determined late challenge from the home side who remain bottom of the table despite their valiant display.
