Modgill century powers Merrion to emphatic victory

Swapnil Modgill struck a magnificent unbeaten 132 as Merrion chased down 287 with ease to complete an eight-wicket victory over North County.

North County had earlier posted 286, with Suliman Safi leading the way through an attacking 80 from 65 balls. His innings included nine fours and five sixes, while Lochie Hardy added 33 and Alan Joseph Mathew contributed 32.

Mohammad Sherzad made 27 and Ruben Sanders added 23, but Merrion kept taking wickets during the closing overs. Andrew Doheny claimed three for 59, while Peter Forkin and Corne Botha took two wickets apiece.

Merrion’s reply was dominant from the outset.

Modgill and Stephen Doheny shared a blistering opening partnership of 142, with Doheny hammering 85 from only 48 deliveries. His innings contained seven fours and seven sixes before he fell to Hardy.

Rajwardhan Undre then struck 34 from 21 balls, including six boundaries and a six, as the chase gathered further momentum.

Modgill remained in complete control, hitting 16 fours and five sixes in his 100-ball innings. Seb Dijkstra added an unbeaten 29 as Merrion reached their target in just 33.3 overs, sealing victory with almost 17 overs to spare.
