Cork County crush Malahide after Prophet leads batting charge

Batting first, Cork County posted 270 for eight from their 50 overs, built around an excellent 78 from Thorne Prophet. His 92-ball innings contained six fours and a six and provided the foundation for a competitive total.

Donald Marakassery made 39, Ross Durity added 32 and Brian Upman contributed a brisk 29. Bakhtyar Nabi then struck 27 from 19 balls before Zubair Khan supplied a spectacular late flourish with an unbeaten 23 from only eight deliveries, including four fours and a six.

Robbie Foulkes was Malahide’s most successful bowler with three for 44.

The reply quickly became a procession as Malahide collapsed to 45 all out.

William Shields struck twice early, removing Adam Doyle and Jeremy Martins, before Diarmuid Carey tore through the middle order with three for four from four overs.

Nabi completed a superb all-round performance by claiming four for 16 from 8.4 overs, including two maidens. Nabeel Anjum took the remaining wicket as no Malahide batter reached 15.
