MARAUDING MARILLIER IN THE RUNS AGAIN

Luke Marillier underlined his growing reputation with a superb 160 for the North West Under-19s against Munster this week.

The Donemana all-rounder faced 135 balls, striking 19 fours and four sixes as the North West piled up 299 before completing a convincing 182-run victory.

It has been a difficult season for Donemana by their own high standards, but Marillier has been one of the bright spots, and this innings was another significant marker in his development. The Irish passport-holding Zimbabwean has taken another step towards what could yet become an international career in Ireland.

“It was a personal best highest score,” said Marillier, reflecting on an innings that mixed patience with clean striking.

“It was a good wicket to bat on, although it got lower later on in the innings and that brought a slight difficulty.

“There was good support from the non-striker’s end, and while there were a couple of competitive deliveries, I managed to stay on top.

“It was tough batting in warm heat, but pleasing to get through it.”

Marillier’s knock gave the North West complete control of the contest and reinforced why he is regarded as one of the more promising young players in the region.
