RAO RINGS BELL AS IRELAND TRIUMPH

Bobby Rao admitted it was a moment he will cherish for the rest of his life after ringing the Roy Torrens bell on a famous day for Irish cricket as Ireland beat India by one run to seal a 2-0 T20I series victory.

Rao was the perfect guest for the occasion, having the rare distinction of representing both countries during his playing career, as well as later coaching Ireland.

The symbolism was not lost on him as Ireland completed a memorable series win over the reigning T20 world champions.

“It was a great honour and so emotional as well,” said Rao. “It is something I will cherish for the rest of my life.

“I know thousands will be watching in my birth country, and to top it off with the Irish team winning the series against India, the T20 world champions, is the cherry on the cake.”
