Saturday's North West Premiership clash between Donemana and Fox Lodge was abandoned in distressing circumstances after umpire Clarkie Killen suffered a head injury when he was struck by the ball during the match at The Holm.

Play was immediately halted and Killen received medical attention before being taken to hospital by ambulance, where he was treated for concussion. Thankfully, he was later discharged, with the news of his recovery bringing relief across the North West cricket community.

Before the incident, Fox Lodge had made a steady start to their innings, reaching 83 for 3 in 17.1 overs. Jason Milligan was unbeaten on 30, while Gayan Maneeshan contributed 23. Earlier, Ray Curry had claimed two wickets for Donemana, finishing with figures of 2 for 41.

Following the abandonment, Donemana Cricket Club issued a heartfelt statement wishing Killen a speedy recovery.

"Everyone at Donemana Cricket Club sends our best wishes to Clarkie Killen after he suffered a head injury while umpiring today's match against Fox Lodge at The Holm," the club said.

"We hope Clarkie makes a full and speedy recovery and is back on his feet again soon.

"We'd also like to extend our sincere thanks to everyone who helped and assisted following the incident. Your support and quick response were greatly appreciated."

The incident cast a shadow over the day's cricket, with players, officials and supporters united in concern for one of the North West's most respected umpires. 

The overwhelming sentiment from across the local game was one of relief that Killen is recovering, with everyone in the North West cricket fraternity sending their best wishes for a full and speedy return to health.
