SPALLEN REACH THE TOP

Ballyspallen climbed to the top of the Championship after edging Eglinton by eight runs on the DLS method in a rain-affected contest. 

Hassan Shahid's classy 76, featuring six fours and a six, and Graham Kennedy's unbeaten 69, which included 10 boundaries, transformed the innings with a superb fourth-wicket partnership of 120 as Ballyspallen posted 199 for 4. 

Eglinton responded positively through Andy Millar and Andy Lucas before Michael O'Brien struck twice, dismissing both Lucas and overseas professional Dunith Jayathunga with successive deliveries. 

Jamie Millar's unbeaten 57 and Ian Young's 37 shared a 77-run stand, but heavy rain halted play with Ballyspallen eight runs ahead. 

Eglinton had the consolation of being presented with their T20 Championship trophy and medals won earlier in the week.

Blayde Capell produced one of the innings of the season, smashing a breathtaking 202 from just 121 balls as Glendermott piled up 336 for 7 before rain denied Bonds Glen a famous chase. 

Capell blasted 16 fours and 16 sixes, while Lewis Pearson added an unbeaten 49 from 33 deliveries. 

Set a revised target of 203 from 24 overs, Bonds Glen mounted a stunning response, led by William McClintock's unbeaten 93 from only 43 balls, including 12 sixes. 

However, further rain ended play at 185 for 3 after 19.3 overs, just three balls short of a result, meaning a replay in the coming weeks.

Burndennett and Letterkenny will also have to do it all again after rain forced the abandonment of their contest. 

Burndennett had reached 142 for 6 from 26 overs, with Usman Azhar top-scoring with 38, while Marty Mehaffey (26) and Derek Curry (25) also made useful contributions. Muhammad Khalid impressed with the ball, taking 3 for 39, while Josten Johny claimed 2 for 19. 

Killyclooney and Ardmore were left frustrated as torrential rain denied a result in a match that had swung dramatically. 

Before the match, there was a minute's silence in memory of Patricia Gormlry, mother of Ardmore player Sean.

Keenan Vieira led Killyclooney to 166 for 3 with an excellent 66, striking 10 fours and a six, while sharing an opening stand of 99 with Andy Nicholl (42). 

Chasing a revised target of 161 in 22 overs, Ardmore flew out of the blocks as Adam Chester blasted 43 from 32 balls, including four sixes, adding 85 in just over eight overs with Muhammad Edrees, who made 33 from 23 balls. 

Ardmore looked favourites before a second downpour ended proceedings, meaning yet another attempt for both.
