DON'T LUKE BACK IN ANGER

Luke Marillier admits there are few better feelings in cricket than scoring a century in a senior cup tie — especially when it helps send your club into the last four.

The young Irish passport-holding Zimbabwean produced a Player of the Round performance as holders Donemana chased down 266 to defeat Eglinton by eight wickets and book their place in the semi-finals of the North West Senior Cup.

Marillier's magnificent century, combined with another hundred from opening partner Jamie Huey, transformed a daunting chase into a surprisingly comfortable victory. The pair shared a double-century opening stand that effectively took the game away from Eglinton and underlined the bright future at The Holm.

"It was a great game at the weekend," said Marillier. "It's always nice to score a hundred, but nothing beats scoring one in the Senior Cup and doing it in front of the home crowd. The support was great."

The innings was the latest highlight in a season of rapid development for the talented teenager, who has benefited from regular opportunities with the North West Warriors pathway system.

"The Emerging Warriors have given me so many opportunities to score runs," he said. "I've been playing lots and lots of cricket, which really helps your development."

Marillier was also part of the Donemana side that recently lifted the North West Under-18 Cup, a success he believes reflects the strength of the club's young talent.

"It meant a lot to win a cup with such a great bunch of guys," he said. "Everyone played their part in getting Donemana to the final and it was really cool to win it at home and bring the cup back to the club."

Looking ahead to the All-Ireland Under-18 tournament in August, Marillier is confident Donemana can make an impact.

"The team will do great. Players like Roy McGerrigle and Ollie Britton have huge potential and I believe they'll do really well in the tournament and lead the team on very well."

For Marillier, life in the North West continues to be an enjoyable experience.

"I love being in the North West," he said. "I've had great support from everyone and that makes a huge difference."

With runs flowing freely and confidence soaring, Donemana's latest batting star is making the most of every opportunity.
