North West's early interprovincial momentum came to an abrupt halt as the NCU produced a commanding nine-wicket victory in Downpatrick.

Less than 24 hours after defeating Leinster, the North West were comprehensively outplayed by an impressive NCU side on a Meadow ground that provided a superb setting and excellent hospitality for both teams.

The North West batting never recovered after early breakthroughs and were dismissed for just 55 in 15 overs.

Matilda McCartney was the chief destroyer, returning outstanding figures of 4 for 15, while Ella Naylor struck twice for just three runs. Olivia Morrow also claimed two wickets for 17 to ensure the innings never gained any momentum.

Set a modest target of 56, the NCU made light work of the chase. Openers Lucie Harper and Eva Cupitt dominated from the outset, sharing an opening stand of 53 to effectively end the contest inside 12 overs.

Harper was the aggressor, striking five boundaries in an accomplished 27 before becoming the only wicket to fall, trapped by Abbey-Gale McGarrigle, who finished with figures of 1 for 7.

Cupitt remained unbeaten on 17, while Katie West hit the winning runs to finish two not out as the NCU reached 56 for 1 in just 12.2 overs.

The convincing victory gives the NCU plenty of confidence ahead of Friday's interprovincial fixture when they travel to Balbriggan to face Leinster.
