Lorcan Tucker has been confirmed as permanent T20 international captain and will lead a much changed Ireland side in two sold out games against India in Belfast on Friday and Sunday.

The 29-year-old Pembroke wicketkeeper batsman who stepped up to lead the Boys in Green when Paul Stirling was injured in February will be without his predecessor again for the India series, as well as regulars Mark Adair, Josh Little, Curtis Campher and Barry McCarthy.
The long injury list has seen first call ups for quick bowlers Matthew Holland from Balbriggan, and Jai Moondra, the Leinster left-armer, as well as rookie Reuben Wilson who made his Ireland debut in the Test against New Zealand last month.
The trio will have to find a way to combat 15-year-old sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi — the star of this year’s IPL — who is expected to make his international debut for India at Stormont.
“There will be no tougher challenge for our group than India,” Tucker said. “Coming from the IPL, there will be players who want to make an impact on the international scene. I hope that we can spoil a few of those parties they might have planned.
“My approach to the captaincy is to lead from within and by example. I'd like to think I have good relationships with all the staff and players and can act with honesty and empathy.
“It’s my job to bring the best out of them and give them the opportunity to do amazing things for themselves and us as a team. If I ask things of them, I’d want it to be clear that I’d asked those things of myself first.
“We are fortunate to be at the start of a cycle and have time on our side in this format. I'd love to be at that 2028 T20 World Cup knowing I’d given the young lads coming through the chance to make this job and this team their own.”
