Foyle College were crowned Lancia Consult Girls 1XI Schools Cup champions after defeating Friends' School Lisburn by 54 runs in an entertaining final at Muckamore.

After being put in by Friends captain Grace Wilson, Foyle recovered from an early setback to post an imposing 159 for 3, thanks to a magnificent unbeaten century from Bready's Jodie Spence.

The opener paced her innings superbly before reaching three figures in dramatic fashion, striking her 11th boundary from the final ball of the innings to finish on 101 not out.

Friends' hopes of restricting the total were boosted by the excellent off-spin of Skye Ravey, who returned impressive figures of 2 for 18 from her four overs.

Chasing 160, Friends battled hard but never quite managed to keep pace with the required rate. Captain Grace Wilson led from the front with a fine 41 and looked capable of launching a late assault before Holly McClintock produced the decisive moment of the match with a brilliant caught-and-bowled dismissal.

McClintock went on to finish with outstanding figures of 5 for 11, ripping through the middle order and ensuring Friends were restricted to 105 for 8 from their allotted overs.

The victory completed a memorable day for Foyle, whose success was built around Spence's match-winning century and a disciplined bowling performance that never allowed Friends to gain momentum. The 54-run triumph secured the prestigious Schools Cup and capped a superb campaign for the Waterside team.
