It was a disappointing day for the two associate sides in this Women's T20 World Cup, with Netherlands and Scotland both losing after Australia and England respectively both made big scores.
Australia were put into bat in their game against the Dutch in Southampton, with the Aussies making 219-6 from their 20 overs. Beth Mooney top scored with 74 before she retired hurt with Ash Gardner (58) and Georgia Wareham (41) also contributing. Iris Zwilling (3-52) was the pick of the bowlers for the Netherlands.
The Netherlands lost both openers early in their reply, and from then on didn't really try to chase their big target, instead batting out their overs. Babette de Leede and Sterre Kalis added 96 for the third wicket before the latter was out for 44 in the final over. De Leede finished unbeaten on 56 out of the Dutch total of 121-3, a 98 run win for the Aussies. The Dutch are next in action on Thursday in Bristol when they play South Africa.
In the evening at Headingley, Scotland took on hosts England in the first match between the sides in 25 years. Kirstie Gordon, playing against her old team, took a wicket with the first delivery of the match, but Danni Wyatt-Hodge and Sophia Dunkley added 51 for the second wicket.

Dunkley reached 57 before she was the third batter to fall, with Alice Capsey's 40 from 25 balls also helping England. When Capsey was out in the 14th over, England were 110-4 and Scotland were dreaming of a famous win. Five more runs came from that over which began a sustained display of hitting from the home side which saw them score 85 runs in the last six overs to take their total to 200-5.
Scotland managed to bat out their overs in their reply, but those last six overs for England proved to be the difference maker. Sarah Bryce's 34 was Scotland's top score as they reached 162-7, losing by 38 runs. They play New Zealand on Tuesday in Bristol in their penultimate group stage game.
