As revealed last November, Munster have been culled from the senior interprovincial ranks. The 2026 series will now feature three sides, Leinster Lightning, Northern Knights and NW Warriors.

The governing body outlined the reason behind Munster's axing.

"The Munster Reds will not feature this year. Following a comprehensive review of the Inter Provincial competition in late 2025 it was recommended that investment in the short-term should be focused on the performance pathway, and increasing High Performance coaching capacity within the province.

"The Munster Heat will continue to play in the Future Series and Munster teams will compete in all the male age group tournaments, while other pathway structures will be reinvigorated and the development of a female pathway will be prioritised.

"As part of these changes, a new Atlantic Series will be launched this year which will feature an annual series of matches between the North West Warriors and representative teams from the Connacht and Munster provinces."

Leinster Lightning will once again be favourites to contunue their domination of the series having completed yet another double in 2025.

Bready, Lisburn and Pembroke will host the T20 Trophy matches ahead of the series against India, while the top two sides will take place in a final for the first time in the Cup 50-over event, with Sydney Parade hosting the decider on Thursday July 23rd.

Cricket Ireland also confirmed that the Emerald Challenge will be held at Malahide from May 18th to 21st to help prepare for the Test against New Zealand the following week.
