Smith’s final-over fireworks seal dramatic Lisburn win

Nikolai Smith produced a sensational final-over assault as Lisburn defeated Muckamore by two wickets with three balls to spare, leaving the Premier League table tightly congested with just one victory separating the top five sides.

Muckamore posted 144 for seven from their 20 overs after recovering from the early loss of Neil Brand for a duck.

Jason van der Merwe struck 18 from 12 balls, while Marko Bates and Alistair Shields added 28 and 29 respectively. However, Lisburn kept taking wickets, with Jon Hinrichsen and Neil Whitworth claiming two apiece.

Luke Allen’s unbeaten 32 and Chinmay Dakhane’s 17 not out gave the innings late momentum, carrying Muckamore to a competitive total.

Lisburn’s chase appeared to be slipping away after they fell to 94 for seven. Captain Whitworth made 31, but Neil Brand’s three wickets and economical spells from van der Merwe and Allen Coulter left the visitors needing a remarkable finish.

Smith, however, refused to surrender. He found support from Callum Atkinson in a 30-run stand before Atkinson fell from the final ball of the 19th over, leaving Lisburn requiring 21 from six deliveries.

What followed was extraordinary.

Facing Aditya Adey, Smith struck the first ball for six. A wide followed before he launched another six, drilled four and then smashed a no-ball for six to complete the chase from only three legitimate deliveries.

Smith finished unbeaten on 59 from 29 balls, with five fours and four sixes, as Lisburn came back from the brink to win despite missing the Adair brothers and Ben Calitz.

The dramatic victory not only secured valuable points but also tightened an already fiercely competitive title race.
