Lisburn reignited their Premier League title hopes in spectacular fashion as Ben Calitz produced a brutal exhibition of hitting to power them to a 110-run win over Woodvale at Wallace Park.

Fresh from beating India, Calitz brought the fireworks home, smashing six sixes in an over off Carl Robinson on his way to a match-winning 119 from just 47 balls. His astonishing innings contained five fours and 13 sixes, transforming Lisburn’s total after they had been in danger of posting something far more modest.

Woodvale had chosen to bowl and were well in the contest when Ross Bryans, who finished with an excellent 5 for 47, helped reduce the hosts to 152 for 5. Nikolai Smith made 40, Nigel Jones 38, David Miller 26 and skipper Neil Whitworth 27, but it was Calitz who changed everything.

He launched a devastating late assault, taking the score to 297 before he was last man out in the 47th over, leaving Woodvale with a formidable chase.

Their reply never truly gathered enough momentum, despite Harry Warke’s brisk 37 at the top of the order. Ruhan Pretorius battled hard for 50 and Robinson responded to his punishment with a determined 52, but Woodvale were always behind the rate.

Lisburn’s attack shared the wickets around impressively. Ewan Wilson struck early and finished with 3 for 43, while Ben Walsh claimed 3 for 47 and Whitworth wrapped up the innings with 3 for 28. Callum Atkinson also chipped in as Woodvale were dismissed for 187 in 39.4 overs.

It was a statement win for Lisburn, built around a once-in-a-season innings from Calitz, whose clean striking ensured their title challenge remains very much alive.
