Merrion maintained their perfect start to the Leinster Women’s Premiership, making it five wins from five with a commanding 62-run victory over Phoenix.

The leaders piled up 199 without loss in their 20 overs, with New Zealand overseas player Bella Armstrong producing a superb century. Armstrong raced to 101 from just 53 balls, hitting 18 fours and one six, before retiring.

She dominated a 165-run stand in 16 overs with Annabel Squires, who was equally assured in an unbeaten 73 from 51 deliveries, including 11 boundaries. Isabel Light then added a run-a-ball 17 not out, striking three fours, as Merrion posted a formidable total.

Phoenix’s chase began badly when Irish international Georgina Dempsey fell for 8, with Armstrong turning her attention to the bowling side of her duties.

Aditiba Chudasama offered the main resistance with a fluent 65 from 52 balls, including 10 fours, and shared a 111-run stand with Zara Craig, who made a run-a-ball 44 with four boundaries.

However, Phoenix never seriously threatened the target and finished on 137 for 6. Armstrong completed a fine all-round display with 3 for 23, while Niamh MacNulty took 2 for 20.

Rush powered to a commanding seven-wicket win over Fingal rivals The Hills after Ellie McGee and Cate Pedersen produced a devastating opening stand.

Chasing 148, the Rush pair put on 107 in under 11 overs to break the back of the contest. McGee was in sparkling form, hitting 68 from just 39 balls with six fours and two sixes, while Pedersen was equally fluent, striking 65 from 40 deliveries, including 11 fours and a six. By the time both fell, Rush were almost home, and Aoife Beggs saw them to their target in the 16th over.

Earlier, The Hills had posted 147 for 8, with Irish internationals Jane Maguire and Lara McBride providing the main thrust. Maguire struck 42 from 30 balls, including six fours and a six, while McBride added 29 from 18 deliveries with three fours and two sixes.

Darcie Armstrong and Elizabeth Cohr took two wickets apiece for Rush.

Anna Kerrison produced a stunning last-gasp finish as Malahide snatched a dramatic win over Pembroke in a thrilling final-over chase.

Pembroke looked to have done enough after posting 145 for 3, built around an excellent unbeaten 61 from Susie Whaley. She struck seven fours in her 52-ball innings, first adding 53 for the opening wicket with Clare Shillington, who made a run-a-ball 27.

Whaley then shared a further 66 for the second wicket with Marama Downes, whose fluent 40 from 31 deliveries included five boundaries, as Pembroke reached what appeared a challenging total.

Malahide’s chase had several contributors, with Freya Sargent making 14, Sorcha O’Carolan Murphy 20 and Sarah Condron 19, but Kerrison became the match-winner.

Still needing 16 from the final three balls, Kerrison delivered an astonishing finish, going six, four, six to seal victory from the last delivery. Her unbeaten 60 from 45 balls, containing nine fours and one six, turned near-certain defeat into a famous Malahide win.

Mhairi Nicoll had earlier taken 2 for 25 for Pembroke, but Kerrison’s nerve held when it mattered most.

Second-placed Balbriggan powered to a 57-run win over Leinster after Courtney Gounden anchored a commanding 200 for 3.

South African Gounden batted through the innings for an unbeaten 72 from 59 balls, striking nine fours and controlling the tempo after the early loss of Lara Maritz. She shared a decisive second-wicket stand of 113 with Nina Kerr, who made 42 from 39 deliveries with five boundaries.

Balbriggan then finished with a flourish as Tess Maritz cracked an unbeaten 31 from just 14 balls, including four fours and the only six of the innings, in an unbroken fourth-wicket stand of 62 with Gounden.

Leinster needed something special and Irish international Laura Delany gave them hope with 58 from 44 balls, including six fours. Rebecca Rolfe made 24 and Joanna Loughran 37 from 28 balls, but the chase faded.

Julia Hoal took 2 for 39 as Leinster closed on 143 for 6.
