Cricket Leinster Women U19s completed a composed six-wicket win over North West after chasing 110 with three overs to spare.

North West were bowled out for 109 in their 20 overs, with Jodie Spence providing the main resistance with 27. Mansi Bhavsar added a useful 18, while Ella Wasson made 12, but the innings never fully escaped Leinster’s grip after early wickets for Darcey Dalwood.

Dalwood struck twice in an excellent spell of 2 for 14, removing Emily Young and captain Millie Spence, while Aoife Hayden also claimed two wickets. Sinead Thomson and Ashwi Manoj picked up one apiece, and Leinster’s fielding was sharp, with four run-outs helping check the North West recovery.

Aisling Lawlor then led the reply with 30 before being run out, sharing a 50-run opening stand with Izzy McClean, who made 16. Genevieve Morrissey kept Leinster firmly on course with a fluent 28, while Isobel Jennings chipped in with 11.

North West kept battling through Sophie Hamilton, Jessica Cooke and Anna McGurk, but Gemma Sargent and Zoe Bell saw Leinster home at 110 for 4 in 17 overs.

In the afternoon game, the NCU U19s completed a convincing six-wicket win over the North West after a ruthless bowling display at Campbell College.

North West were bowled out for just 54 in 16.4 overs, with only Jodie Spence, who made 22, reaching double figures. Amelia Guy was run out early, while Lucy Thompson, Millie Spence, Ella Wasson and Jessica Cooke all fell cheaply as NCU seized control.

Penny Speer did the early damage with 3 for 12, removing Millie Spence, Wasson and Cooke, before Vanessa Minford tore through the middle order with 3 for 8. Anna Ellerby, Erin Bond and Natalie Moore also struck as North West lost wickets at regular intervals.

NCU had a few early alarms in reply, slipping to 11 for 3 after Rebecca Lowe, Emily Carville and Bond were dismissed. However, captain Georgia Wilson steadied the chase with an unbeaten 16.

Niamh Lowry then played the decisive hand, making 21 before falling with victory in sight. Lucy Andrews finished 4 not out as NCU reached 55 for 4 in 13 overs to seal the win.

The series continues on Friday.
