There were contrasting emotions for Donemana over the weekend as the joy of beating champions Brigade in the Premiership quickly evaporated less than 24 hours later with a mauling at Malahide.

The Tyrone side travelled to Dublin carrying the hopes of the entire region, but were brought swiftly down to earth when they were bundled out for 127.

The Leinster side took less than 13 overs to knock off their meagre target as opener Alan Reynolds bludgeoned a 41-ball century.

The drought for local sides now extends to 23 years and in truth there’s little sign of that changing anytime soon.

Questions are starting to be asked about the number of local sides being allowed to enter Ireland’s Premier competition, and a reduction from eight to four could very well be in the pipeline.

In truth, it might be the kindest move, given the one-sided nature of ties in recent times.
