Leinster gained a psychological edge ahead of Sunday’s Irish Cup clash with Clontarf after a five-wicket win at Castle Avenue.

Clontarf looked in major trouble at 51 for 7 before a superb eighth-wicket partnership of 101 between Karthik Joshi and Luke Thomson rescued the innings. Joshi top-scored with 46, while Thomson added 44 as Clontarf recovered to 159 all out. Joey Carroll starred with the ball for Leinster, taking 3-11, while Mark Tonge and Jai Moondra also claimed three wickets each.
Leinster’s chase suffered an immediate setback when Ruben Newton was bowled first ball by Fionn Hand. However, Tom Johnson’s 35 and Monil Patel’s 16 added 74 for the second wicket to steady the innings. Although Leinster slipped from 79 for 1 to 89 for 5, Saqib Bahadur’s unbeaten 46 and Joey Carroll’s 27 not out guided them to victory in 31 overs.
Merrion secured a three-wicket victory over Cork County at Anglesea Road after a well-paced chase of 229.
Josh Hartill top-scored with 66 for Cork County, while Nabeel Anjum finished unbeaten on 39 and Brian Donnelly added 26 in their 228 for 9. Peter Forkin starred with the ball for Merrion, taking 4-55, while Tom Ford and Mikey O’Reilly claimed two wickets apiece.
Merrion’s reply was anchored by half-centuries from Seb Dijkstra and John Anderson, who both scored 59 to keep the chase under control. Swapnil Modgill contributed a valuable 30, while Anjum completed a strong all-round performance with 3-49. Merrion reached 231 for 7 with 3.3 overs remaining.
Railway Union claimed a convincing 106-run victory over Rush at Park Avenue after strong performances with both bat and ball.
Hayden Hamilton top-scored with 61, while Rob O’Brien added 53 as Railway Union posted 240 all out in 47.2 overs. Bruce Whaley contributed 35 and Abhay Tipnis chipped in with 26 in a solid batting display. Jawid Oryakhil was the standout bowler for Rush with impressive figures of 4-24, while Nasir Totakhil took 2-33.
Rush struggled to keep pace in reply and were bowled out for 134 in 39.5 overs. Isaac Bird made 45 and Nathan McGuire added 26, but the Railway Union attack proved too strong. Tipnis completed an excellent all-round display with 4-12, while Ashil Prakash claimed 3-23.
Malahide produced a thumping 189-run victory over Civil Service at Phoenix Park to continue the promoted side’s difficult campaign.
Alan Reynolds gave the innings early momentum with a blistering 44 from just 19 balls, smashing five sixes and three fours as Malahide raced to 50 inside six overs. Adam Doyle then anchored the innings superbly with 83, while skipper Jeremy Martins added 69 in a crucial fourth-wicket stand of 129 that took the game away from Civil Service.
Robbie Foulkes chipped in with 37 as Malahide closed on an imposing 308 for 5. Devender Ranolia and Zaman Safi both claimed two wickets.
Civil Service never threatened the chase and were bowled out for 119 in 32.4 overs as Malahide’s bowlers shared the wickets around effectively. Kelvin Donnelly led the attack with 3-10, while Timcy Khanduja and Jeremy Martins also picked up three wickets to complete a dominant all-round performance.
Pembroke stayed on course for a successful title defence with a 26-run victory over Phoenix at Sydney Parade despite fielding an understrength side.
Addison Sherriff top-scored with 66, striking eight fours in a polished innings, while Danny Hogan added 58 with five boundaries and a six as Pembroke posted 248 all out in 47.5 overs. S Gupta chipped in with 27, while James Maginnis was the pick of the Phoenix attack with 3-22. Ben White and Sean McNicholl both claimed two wickets.
Phoenix looked well placed in the chase after a flying start from Johit Munjal and Shane Getkate, who added 91 for the opening wicket. Munjal made 42 and Getkate 35 before George Dockrell kept the pursuit alive with a superb 79. However, the middle and lower order collapsed under pressure as Byron McDonough ripped through the batting with four wickets. Paul Lawson provided excellent support with two scalps as Phoenix were dismissed for 222 in 46.4 overs.
Balbriggan claimed Fingal bragging rights with a four-wicket victory over North County at Balrothery.
North County were bowled out for 129 in 37.2 overs despite a fighting innings from Jamie Grassi, who was last man out for a counterattacking 52 that included six fours and a six.
Jordan Hollard starred with the ball for Balbriggan, taking 4-34, while Dylan Lues and Ruan Strauss picked up two wickets each. Hollard then carried his superb form into the chase, blasting 54 from just 24 deliveries with seven fours and three sixes.
He shared a decisive second-wicket stand of 64 with Cameron Rowe, who made 29. North County fought hard through Alan Mathew’s 3-40 and Brandon Morris’s 2-36, but Aaron McGeehan’s unbeaten 22 ensured there was no late drama as Balbriggan reached 130 for 6 in the 18th over.
