Letterkenny Cricket Club

It's an historic occasion for Letterkenny who make the step up to senior cricket after securing the Qualifying One league title last year, following on from their cup success of 2024.

Since its establishment in 2019 with just one team, Letterkenny Cricket Club has grown remarkably and now fields six teams, an achievement that reflects the hard work and dedication of everyone involved.

The LCC committee including Rajesh, Bhupesh, Sudheesh, Vinith and Dileep have played a significant role behind the scenes in building the club to where it is today. However, there is still a long way to go, particularly in securing dedicated cricket facilities in Letterkenny.

Special mention must also go to Bobby Rao, whose mentorship and continued support have been invaluable to the club’s development.

A key focus for the club is youth development. There has been a strong emphasis on building youth teams, with Ashwini and Varun T leading structured sessions with qualified coaches to groom young players and ensure a sustainable future for the club.

"Following a strong 2025 campaign, where we secured promotion after finishing top in Q1, the club is excited to step up into Premiership 2.

"The focus this season is to build on that momentum, adapt to the higher standard, and compete strongly throughout the league.

"The side will be led by Gopinath Kurinji Siva, who continues as captain after guiding the team to promotion last season and winning the league cup in 2024. His leadership has been central to building a competitive and united squad.

The squad will be coached by the triumvirate of Ramees, Wasiq Riaz, and Rammohan Goud Sama, who bring quality and experience in abundance.

Captain Gopinath Kurinji Siva looked ahead to the new campaign saying:

"The squad has remained largely consistent, with the core group retained from last season. We’ve also added a few new players from universities in Letterkenny who are disciplined, committed, and eager to play at a higher standard. Their addition strengthens the depth and energy within the squad.

"As captain, my focus is clear—building a strong, long-term team for this club and for cricket in Letterkenny. While an overseas professional can bring short-term impact, we are not a team that relies on that.

"I believe in developing players who are based here, who represent and grow cricket in Ireland, and who are committed to the club’s future. This is about the process, development, and building a culture not just chasing results.

"I trust the players we have, and I’m confident this group has the character and ability to compete and put up a strong fight in Premiership 2.

"Neelansh, Pratham, Ninad, and Tasim are exciting young players to watch this season. They have shown great potential, work ethic, and commitment, and we expect them to step up and make an impact at this level.

"Premiership Two will be a competitive challenge, but the squad is motivated and ready. The focus is not just on results, but on improving as a unit, playing the right brand of cricket, and continuing to grow the game in Letterkenny.

"We respect every team, but we don’t rely on anyone—we back our players, trust our process, and we’re here to compete hard and make our mark at this level."

Like many developing clubs, Letterkenny has faced challenges around access to proper cricket facilities. Despite this, the club continues to grow strongly, driven by the commitment of its players, volunteers, and wider community.

The progress made in recent years, both on and off the field is a testament to that effort. The club remains very optimistic about securing improved and permanent facilities in the near future, which will be a huge boost for player development and the continued growth of cricket in the region.
