Ireland Wolves 2025
1 day: Final, Ireland Wolves lost to Sri Lanka A by 5 wickets
Abu Dhabi, 25 April.
Ireland Wolves 200 (47.3 overs: M Topping 73, T Mayes 36, C Carmichael 21; T Ratnayake 4-33, M Rathnayake 3-24, D Hamantha 2-51)
Sri Lanka A 203/5 (34.3 overs; R Rathnayake 77*, P Rathnayake 77*; T Mayes 3-38, L McCarthy 2-50)
Attacking field for Morgan Topping with the ball spinning (sporty.lk)
After forty was added by openers Stephen Doheny and Cade Carmichael Ireland had little to show before Morgan Topping and Tom Mayes added 74 for the eighth wicket as once again they failed to bat out their overs. Early wickets for Tom Mayes gave the Wolves hopes, and when he got a third and McCarthy joined in with a brace, Ireland were suddenly favourites at 43/5..But an unbroken 6th wicket stand of 160 guided Sri Lanka to victory as Rathnayake times two get unbeaten 77's. Valiant effort by the Wolves but couldn't break that partnership.
1 day: Afghanistan A lost to Ireland Wolves by 6 wickets
Abu Dhabi, 21 April.
Afghanistan A 172 (35.3 overs: S Atal 75, I Alikhil 23, M Ishaq 22; G Hoey 4-24, T Mayes 3-43, L McCarthy 2-29)
Ireland Wolves 173/4 (22.3 overs; C Carmichael 75*, S Doheny 46; S Ashraf 2-23)
Gavin Hoey bowls Bilal Sami to end the Afghan innings (Sporty.lk)
Three wickets in the power play saw Afghanistan at 50/3 before a fourth wicket partnership added 111. Going into the last twenty, five wickets in hand looking to push on. But four wickets in as many overs a fourth wicket for skipper Gavin Hoey wraps things up! Positive start to the chase with runs flowing for Cade Carmichael and Stephen Doheny. 50 up in the 7th over, runs flowing, more than half way to their target at 94/0 in 12. Fun ended as Doheny mistimes hook and caught at deep square. Sam Topping goes cheaply, stumped, while elder brother Morgan is caught for 8. Ross Adair off the mark with a six, followed by a four, Ended on 19 by an lbw verdict - adjudged..Won't matter as just 22 required. Emphatic 6-wickets win that was fully deserved and keeps their hopes of reaching the final alive. Need Sri Lanka A to do them a favour.
1 day: Sri Lanka A beat Ireland Wolves by 6 wickets
Abu Dhabi, 19 April.
Ireland Wolves 192 (46 overs; C De Freitas 67*, M Topping 45, S Doheny 31, R Adair 27; D Madushanka 4-41, Dushan Hemantha 3-24, M Rathnayake 2-26)
Sri Lanka A 193/4 (27.1 overs; L Croospulle 53, W Samarawickrama 50*, L Udara 47; G Hoey 3-47)
Ireland failed to bat their 50 overs (ACB)
Another bitterly disappointing Wolves batting effort as Chris De Freitas is left stranded, Ireland not batting their overs, losing their last five wickets in just nineteen balls. Sam Topping and Cade Carmichael both gone early, and Doheny makes it three down at drinks.Topping caught and Jordan Neill bowled just after de Freitas reaches his 50. Ross Adair out for a quickfire 27, followed by Scott Macbeth and Gavin Hoey, before Robertson and Foster go in the same over. Flying start to the chase with a flurry of boundaries seeing 96 in the powerplay. Opening stand broken at 107 with skipper Hoey getting two in the same over. He has a third courtesy of a long hop but Sri Lanka in low-risk mode cruising to their target, Scott Macbeth gets a wicket and punches the air. Sri Lanka totally dominant. Ireland were very, very poor. Well beaten.
1 day: Afghanistan A beat Ireland Wolves by 7 wickets
Abu Dhabi, 17 April.
Ireland Wolves 203 (41.1 overs: C de Freitas 64, S Doheny 32, J Neill 27, R Adair 21; Q Ahmad 3-34, F Safi 2-37, S Ashraf 2-47)
Afghanistan A 207/3 (33.1 overs; Z Akbari 76, S Atal 52, D Rasooli 33*, I Alikhit 25*)
Ross Adair is stumped (ACB)
A fifty opening partnership between Stephen Doheny and Cade Carmichael before the introduction of leg-spinner Qais Ahmad who in his first over had Topping lbw and bowled Ben Calitz first ball. Chris de Freitas and Jordan Neill added 62 before Neill edged behind, Calitz bowled and Adair stumped, while Mayes caught in the deep and a real danger that the Wolves are not going to bat fifty overs! Indeed, a disappointing effort sees them just past 200. Shouldn't be anywhere near enough but who knows? Afghans lose just the one wicket in the powerplay, with Tom Mayes the successful bowler. Afghnistan rattling along at quite a rate partnership worth 93 before the second wicket to Jordan Neill with Atal splicing to mid wicket. Zubaid Akbari chips back to Cian Robertson but that won't change the result. Afghanistan at the double.
1 day: Sri Lanka A beat Ireland Wolves by 45 runs
Abu Dhabi, 13 April.
Sri Lanka A 264 (49.3 overs: S Arachchige 78, KT Ratnayake 35, L Udara 32; T Mayes 3-40, L McCarthy 3-57, S Macbeth 2-38, J Neill 2-70)
Ireland Wolves 219 (44.5 overs; S Topping 39, J Neill 38*, C Carmichael 37, R Adair 32, T Mayes 25, B Calitz 25; H Ratnayake 4-24, M Hemantha 4-51)
Gavin Hoey wins the Toss and opts to field (ACB)
Ireland nibbled their way through the Sri Lankan line up before Sahan Arachchige and Hasanka Ratnayake held them up when the Wolves would have been hoping to wrap things up for not much more than 200. Arachchinge finally gone, the partnership worth 52. Stephen Doheny and Sam Topping opening for the Wolves with Doheny bowled first ball of the second over. A good second wicket stand between Sam Topping and Cade Carmichael had the Wolves going well before both fell to Ratnayake. Macbeth gone cheaply and finally Ross Adair comes in at seven and starts with a 6! And another, plus a boundary. Out for 32 off 18 (4x4, 2x6) and then Hoey gone without scoring. Jordan Neill and Tom Mayes add 52 to delay the end but Wolves well short today.
Day 4: Afghanistan A beat Ireland Wolves by an innings and 194 runs
Torrance Oval, Abu Dhabi, 10 April.
Afghanistan A 612/7 dec (151 overs; Bahir Shah 187, R Hassan 94, I Mir 85, S Ur Rahman 84*, A Zazai 55, D Rasooli 53 ; L McCarthy 2-88, C Robertson 2-139, C Carmichael 1-22, M Foster 1-64, T Mayes 1-120)
Ireland Wolves 309 & 109/9 (54 overs: S Doheny 29, T Mayes 29; A Momand 6-25, F Malik 2-30)
Wickets continue to tumble in UAE (ACB)
Ireland start the day 303 in arrears with eight wickets in hand - but two have fallen in quick succession after the restart, Doheny lbw to Momand, making that 6-0 to Afghanistan in the lbw count, and de Freitas caught to give Malik his second wicket. Tom Mayes providing runs again adding some resistance with Ben Calitz, but it just seems to be a question of when not if the hosts wrap up an innings win. Momand breaks the stand by bowling Calitz and gets another lbw two balls later as McCarthy is trapped. Mayes gets joint top score but bowled by Akbar and that could well be that. Pretty emphatic lesson learned for the Wolves who were second best for most of the game except for that first innings double hundred stand between Carmichael and Mayes. They will be hoping for better fortunes in the 50-overs tri-series.
Day 3: Afghanistan A v Ireland Wolves close
Torrance Oval, Abu Dhabi, 9 April.
Afghanistan A 612/7 dec (151 overs; Bahir Shah 187, R Hassan 94, I Mir 85, S Ur Rahman 84*, A Zazai 55, D Rasooli 53 ; L McCarthy 2-88, C Robertson 2-139, C Carmichael 1-22, M Foster 1-64, T Mayes 1-120)
Ireland Wolves 309/9 innings closed (94 overs; C Carmichael 124, T Mayes 79, S Doheny 27, S Topping 26; Z Rehman 4-53, A Momand 4-71) & 33/2 (19.5 overs: S Doheny 19*)
A First-class century in the book for Cade Carmichael (CricketEurope)
Cade Carmichael and nightwatchman Tom Mayes get through the opening overs of Day 3 and beyond with the pair sharing a century stand. Great effort in the morning session and they carry on into the afternoon with Carmichael completing a magnificent century. The partnership reached 203 before Mayes was out and Carmichael followed just two runs later. Chris de Freitas and Morgan Topping have to start all over again but de Freitas goes for just 13. A couple of lbws gives Momad his third and fourth as Ireland finish 303 behind - Matthew Foster who didn't bowl yesterday not appearing with the bat today. Sam Topping the first to fall as Ireland follow-on and when Carmichael lets one hit his pad, that's deemed good enough to end play for the day, one ball early.
4 Day: Afghanistan A v Ireland Wolves (Day 2)
Tolerance Oval, Abu Dhabi, 8 April.
Afghanistan A 612/7 dec (151 overs; Bahir Shah 187, R Hassan 94, I Mir 85, S Ur Rahman 84*, A Zazai 55, D Rasooli 53 ; C Robertson 2-139, L McCarthy 2-88, C Carmichael 1-22, M Foster 1-64, T Mayes 1-120)
Ireland Wolves 76/2 (23 overs; S Doheny 27, S Topping 26)
Cian Robertson got a much-needed breakthrough. (CricketEurope)
More toil for Ireland on Day Two, before they broke the fourth wicket stand of 101, Cian Robertson taking his second wicket of the innings. Liam McCarthy gets his second wicket to bring further cheer. Still the runs pile on as the Afghans look to ram home their advantage, adding 50 in 8 overs. Shah eventually gone for 187 after a 6th wicket stand of 144 with Ur Rahman. The declaration comes at 612. Tough to bat after 151 overs in the dirt. First 13 overs safely negotiated by Sam Topping (20*) and Stephen Doheny (27) before the latter was trapped lbw. Suspect there will be a few more before the game ends..Indeed, Topping also goes the same way. Tom Mayes in as nightwatchman and he and Cade Carmichael survive to the close. Long way for Ireland to save the follow-on tomorrow.
4 day: Afghanistan A v Ireland Wolves (Day 1)
Abu Dhabi, 7 April.
Afghanistan A 317/3 (90 overs: R Hasan 94, I Mir 85, BS Mahboob 54*, D Rasooli 53; L McCarthy 1-48 C Robertson 1-62, M Foster 1-64)
Ireland Wolves
Century opening stand set Afghanistan on their way (ACB)
A steady start by Afghanistan after winning the Toss and electing to bat with no sign of a breakthrough as both openers reach their half centuries. Play stopped due to the weather after lunch but now underway again. It's been a day of toil so far but Eureka! A wicket for Foster breaks the opening stand of 181. Tea taken with the hosts on 196 for 1 after 53 overs. Disappointment for Hasan who falls short of his century, bowled by Liam McCarthy but a real struggle for Ireland, each of the Zimbabwe top four posting half-centuries. A long day with little reward for Ireland who can expect more of the same on Day 2.
