BBC Sport is reporting that Cricket Ireland are once again looking to host home matches in England next summer to ease their ongoing financial concerns.

Essex is one of the county grounds suggested by the corporation that could be in line to host some of the scheduled six-match white-ball series against Bangladesh.

Ireland previously gave up home advantage to travel to England to play the Bangladeshis in a three-match ODI World Cup Challenge League back in May 2023.

The Essex venue is convenient for the 650,000 Bangladeshi population that is resident in the UK - less so for Ireland based supporters.

Given the sparse nature of the Ireland home schedule this year, it's perhaps understandable that the lower costs of staging games in England is better than having once again to cancel a series on the FTP.

Ireland have also held a 'home' series in the UAE against South Africa, but a spiralling increase in the orginally budgeted costs meant that the games played in an empty stadium were an unmitigated financial disaster.

It's a challenging time for Cricket Ireland and one can only hope that the new CEO Sarah Keane hits the ground running when she takes office next March.
