Bready moved off the bottom of the table as they shocked leaders Donemana in a 43-run win at home on Sunday. David Rankin and Travis Faulkner were their heroes in a vital win, inflicting a first league defeat of the season on the champions, a loss which showed the importance of the absent Andy McBrine in their ranks.
The points moved Bready above Eglinton in what is developing into a real battle to avoid the drop approaching the midway point of the campaign.
“It was certainly a tough weekend with two games in two days, which is never easy, let alone against two very good sides in Brigade and Donemana,” said captain Ian Young.
“The season hasn’t exactly panned out how we would have wanted or hoped, but if you told me we would win one of those games beforehand we probably would have taken it.
“Sunday’s game against Donemana was a massive win for us. Davy Rankin fought to set us up for a score on a pitch that wasn’t easy to bat on. Then with the ball we got off to a brilliant start reducing them to 62 for seven.
“Young Travis has been brilliant so far this season. The victory is a real confidence booster as it just shows that we can mix it with the best.
“Hopefully now we can build on it and try push on but it’s not going to get any easier as we are up against a very, very good Coleraine team this weekend. They have been doing brilliantly this season, but if we can play to the standard that i know we can then hopefully we can come out on the right side again.”
