Curtis Campher became the first man to take five wickets in as many balls in a professional match as he hurried Munster Reds to a 100-run victory over the North-West Warriors in their final Interpro T20 clash at Sydney Parade.

The Warriors were 87-5, chasing the Red’s 188-7, when Campher struck with wickets from the last two balls of the 12th over, and the all-rounder completed a hat-trick when he had fellow Ireland international Andy McBrine caught at the start of the 14th.

The Reds skipper, who famously claimed four Dutch wickets in as many balls at the 2021 T20 World Cup, did so again when he removed Robbie Millar, and went one better by bowling last man Josh Wilson.

“Because of the change of overs, I wasn't really sure what was happening,” he said. “I just stuck to my guns and kept it simple and luckily it kind of went off.”

Campher missed the two series against the West Indies with a finger injury but his return this week saw the Reds finish their campaign on a high, pipping the Warriors for third place behind the Northern Knights and runaway winners Leinster Lightning.

Despite his extraordinary feat, Campher did not lead the Reds off at the Pembroke club, that honour went to Peter ‘PJ’ Moor, who has announced his retirement and was playing his final game in Ireland before returning to Zimbabwe.

Moor played 15 Test matches — eight for Zimbabwe and seven for Ireland — and was on the winning side against the country of his birth in the last two.

“With no Test cricket on the horizon, I have decided to move on with my life,” Moor said. “The Test in Bulawayo in February was a fitting way to end my international career.”
