Dragons won the SS50 Series with a crushing victory over Scorchers at Wallace Park with Amy Hunter and Orla Prendergast the stars.
Captain Hunter hit 155, her second century of the series to finish with a tournament average of 83 and Prendergast had the superb figures of five wickets for four runs as the visitors were bowled out for 72 in the 22nd over.
It certainly wasn’t a two-woman team but it was hardly a coincidence that the only game Dragons lost was when neither of the two Ireland internationals were playing. Prendergast actually missed the first three games but scored 116 against Scorchers at Oak Hill and then ripped through the top order in the return match on Wednesday.
Dragon’s total of 346 for six is the highest of the series, although Hunter gave chances on 47 and immediately after bringing up her 100 from 77 balls with nine fours and a six. The skipper then went into overdrive and thanks to another dropped chance on 142 brought up his third 50 in just 26 balls with seven fours and two sixes. She couldn’t quite stay to the finish, caught on the mid-wicket boundary off the last ball of the 49th over, by Gaby Lewis.
Hunter received wonderful support in a fourth wicket stand of 172 from Arlene Kelly who hit a chanceless 70 off 73 balls with seven fours before she gave a return catch to Lou Little who was Scorchers’ most successful bowler with three wickets.
Hopes of a close contest were ended by the ninth over of the Scorchers' reply when they were reduced to 20 for five with Prendergast taking four of the wickets for three runs, two of them wides.
She had Cara Gibson and Christina Coulter-Reilly caught behind, Lara McBride leg before and wrecked the stumps of Lewis. They had scored seven between them.
With Prendergast out of the attack, Little and Sophie McMahon added 30 for the sixth wicket but, with eight wickets down, Hunter gave Prendergast the chance to claim the match ball, which she duly did with her first ball.
Alana Dalzell took the last wicket and Cricket Ireland president Donna Armstrong was on hand to present the trophy to the Dragons.
The players have no time to rest, they are straight into the SS20 when the Dragons begin the defence of their title at Bready on Sunday.
