Svanholm v KB
It was a windy and cool day at Svanholm Park with a forecast of showers later in the day, but the rain came earlier than expected and after a break it created a situation that has not been seen before.
Svanholm won the toss and sent KB to the wicket. KB opened as usual with Hamid Shah (107), playing against his old club, and Kudakwashe Donald (14), who is the coach and keeper. It was Hamid who dominated at the wicket when the opportunity arose. Svanholm's pitch was heavy after the recent rain, so it meant that many points had to be run home, and there were not many boundaries on the large pitch. Hamid survived a couple of strong appeals, but the breakthrough for Svanholm came with 70 on the board when Kudakwashe Donald was caught after a mistimed shot.
Zammer Khan (0) came and went when he was run out after a direct drive that smashed one of the pins. Saif Ahmad (5) only got 10 balls before he cut Abdullah Mahmood's spin to keeper Abdul. The slow bowling put a damper on the scoring, which mostly only happened in singles. When they reached the 41st over with 156 on the board, KB opened up the scoring more and Hamid Shah reached his century expressed with a great jump of joy. Hamid tried to sweep Abdullah, but it didn’t work.
Zakrai Raja (17) did bat, but became a candidate for the back of next year’s “the green” when the stumps flew thanks to Moeez Raja. Despite a few more wickets, KB ended up at 212 for 9 after the 50 overs. Abdullah Mahmood was the best bowler for Svanholm with 4 for 36.
Svanholm went to work briskly at the wicket led by Musa Mahmood (63), who hit two consecutive sixes off Mark Hocking's delivery. Abdul Hashmi (45) followed up the scoring well and soon overtook Musa, with Svanholm ahead in scoring rate. The brakes came from KB after the first powerplay by bringing on the spin bowlers, and that cooled Svanholm down and gave the first wicket when Abdul was caught with 86 on the board. Mads Henriksen (24) came in and continued to support Musa with a couple of boundaries, but before he could really get going he was caught leg-first by Anique Uddin's spin.
That put a damper on Svanholm, but it had started to rain and with 142 on the board, and Anique as the bowler, play was called off. It didn't take long, however, before play resumed, and in the first over Abdullah Mahmood was caught on Anique's delivery. Now there was a problem, as the game was resumed in the same end as it was interrupted, so that Anique bowled two overs in a row.
A clear umpire's error was said, but the explanation came afterwards, as the umpires entered the wrong over when they wanted to check the pair score before the game was resumed. Therefore, they were convinced that they should start at the wrong end. The board catches such errors, so the game was resumed after discussions.
How much it affected Svanholm is not known, but Musa was caught on the boundary at 152. Said Alam (21) and Aden Aftab (38*) were at the wicket and they had to keep the score going by pushing ones. Said cut to the keeper, so Aden together with Ehsan Karimi (9*) pulled loaded. Aden otherwise hit a boundary and with a four in the 49th over sealed the victory. Anique Uddin otherwise only got the 10 overs he was allowed, but took 3 for 25.
Køge v Glostrup
In Køge, Glostrup won the toss and sent Køge to the wicket. It started off okay for Køge but in the fifth over Shakeel Zeb (3 for 24) struck and removed one opener and two balls later his replacement. Meanwhile, the second opening wicket fell to Vibhor Chaudhary, so Køge were now 24 for 3. Fortunately, Shahidullah Safi (32) and Simon Sørensen (16) ensured that there was no collapse, but at 60 Simon was caught. Abdullah Safi (26) came in and this partnership added 36 runs to the total before Shahidullah Safi was caught. Captain Absar Khan (40) was next and he acted as the anchorman until he fell as the 8th wicket at 148 on the board.
Only one more run was added when the last two wickets fell. Sebastian Heath, who is much talked about as a member of the national team squad, only got 5 balls before he was caught at Simon Sørensen's throw. When Hasan Rashid followed shortly after, Glostrup were in trouble with two wickets down for 6 runs. Dinesh Kannan (42) and Mudasser Ali (18) rebuilt the half, but Mudasser was caught at 43 and Taha Ahmed (15) took over until he was caught leg in front with 73 on the board. When Dinesh was bowled as the sixth wicket and they needed 31 runs, Vibhor Chaudary stepped in (28) and together with Ridhin Sharma (11) played the victory home.
