Ireland lost their annual challenge match against their English counterparts by five wickets on Tuesday at High Wycombe.

Batting first, Ireland were bowled out for 153 in 34 overs, recovering from 77 for seven thanks primarily to the efforts of Johnny Robinson.

The Fox Lodge captain cleared the ropes six times and hit two fours in a 42-ball 61, sharing an eighth wicket stand of 47 with Allan Eastwood (10).

Levon Shields made 25, while former Ireland captain William Porterfield made 23 on his debut, and Kenny Carroll hit 17.

Nicholas Walker (53*) and Ben Frazer (43) made sure England's chase was a succesful one.

The Irish attack stuck to their task well with a wicket apiece for Phil Eaglestone, Allan Eastwood, Ehtesham Ahmed, Conor Kelly and Johnny Robinson.

Ireland are back in action next month when they travel to Scotland for a tri-nations event.
