Billingham to welcome the Dutch Lions Army Series

Billingham Synthonia Cricket Club has been confirmed as the host of the 2025 North East Cricket Series later in the year.

Moving into its 22nd year, ‘The North East Cricket Series’ has maintained its reputation as one to attend, with the local young community cricketers facing up to the challenge of the World Cup qualifying Netherlands U19 national team, and the might of the British Army Cricket Association, across a six-game Tri-Series in 2025.

Led by its legendary President Denis Wing, serving his 42nd year as a club member, Billingham Synthonia Cricket Club, based on the border between County Durham and Teesside, takes on full series hosting as part of its continued ambitions to showcase the club’s quality to host international sport.

John D Holland, NECS Series Director was pleased that Billingham had been confirmed adding “Denis and all the volunteers at Billingham Synthonia CC have become known around the world for their passion matching their quality as a series host.  I know they will give their all once again to ensure the series is a huge success, on and off the field”.

Subir Shrestha, KNCB’s High Performance Youth Operations Manager “Billingham is one of the most passionate clubs you could ever want to meet.  The KNCB hopes the series plays its part in showcasing the club’s unsung volunteers led by Denis Wing whose commitment continues to raise the profile of their community around the world”.

Billingham Synthonia junior section lead Tom Harper “On behalf of all the Billingham Synthonia CC members can I say it is an absolute honour to be hosting the North East Cricket Series once again in 2025.  It’s going to be a great week designed to interlink with our club games to showcase we are a club for all.  Can I extend a huge thank you to John Holland, Subir Shrestha, and KNCB, for their passion to showcase our club and its volunteers over many years.  It does not go unnoticed or, unappreciated John and Subir”.   

Dr Harper added, “We hope the whole community comes out, takes the very special opportunity in this 80th anniversary of VE Day, and National Armed Forces Day, to support the Army efforts to play in our Billingham, as it is something your cricket club has worked tirelessly to promote itself to host on your behalf”.
