LISBURN received a rude awakening yesterday as they crashed out of the Royal Liver Irish Cup to a team which had never been within sight of the quarter finals in seven previous attempts.
Rush, from north Dublin, surprised Cliftonville in the previous round but everyone thought that was a 10-overs freak. Not so. They gave Lisburn a game over 30 overs at Wallace Park yesterday and trounced them by 64 runs. Batting first, they made 131, bowled out in the last of their allotted overs. It didn't appear nearly enough but captain Nazir Shukat and Quasim Khalil, who rarely even gets a game for the Firsts, ripped through the Lisburn batting, as the NCU side slumped from 30 for one to 46 for seven. Next up for Rush is a home tie with Merrion.
