Oman have moved to top position in the CWC League 2 table after a relatively straightforward win over hosts Nepal today at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground.

Oman captain Zeeshan Maqsood won the toss and asked the home side to bat first. Unusually for Nepal, almost everyone who batted got a decent start, with captain Gyanendra Malla top scoring with 56. Nepal batted out their 50 overs to score 249-8. Aqib Ilyas was the leading wicket taker with 4-36 whilst Mohammed Nadeem took 3-44.

The run chase for the visitors started with an opening partnership of 49 between Jatinder Singh and Khawar Ali which ended when the former was bowled by Kushal Malla. Ali and Aqib Ilyas then took the score to 83 before Ali fell for 41, bowled by Sushan Bhari.

Ilyas was joined by his captain and the pair put on an unbroken 167 for the third wicket to secure an eight wicket win. Maqsood finished on 68 whilst Ilyas completed a fine all-round performance with 109, the first century for Oman in ODI cricket. He was the obvious choice for player of the match.

Oman will next be in action on Tuesday when they play the USA, whilst Nepal will wait until Wednesday for the final match of this leg when they take on the Americans.
